NA8 Headlight part number

I believe the NA8 come with the headlights that come with a separate H4 globe and not the sealed beam unit.

Does anyone have the mazda part number of the headlight?

You would be able to source a 7" insert made by Hella or another reputable maker- these take an H4- they have been made in Europe for about 40 years . US cars may have used sbu's since they were very slow to take on European lighting. A headlamp is in fact made up of a number of components and the reflector and lense ie an insert or sbu provides the light

Think both the Australian delivered NA6 & NA8 were non-SBU. Had both & have certainly replaced both headlight globes on at least one of them.

PS. Amongst the weekend junk mail, ALDI of all places sells H4s in various colours. I do NOT recommend Aldi H4s but they are only $7.95 the pair.

Thanks guys for your replies however I'll explain why I require it to better explain.

I am after them to suit a S1 RX-7 as in the past when I required one for the MX-5, I was able to use the RX-7 headlights and they fitted perfectly. Very handy especially when for some reason I had both blow at once (only did it once too). Mr Morlock, I actually did buy the Hella headlight kit (5604) a while ago however they do not actualy fit into the headlight ring properly. There is a gap between the lamp and the ring. I have contacted Hella who where unhelpful in solving the issue so that was a waste of money (for sale!). I am suprised it does not fit as I am sure some of you have used this kit before.

I have also been told on the Rotary forum to chase the MX-5 headlights so guy's, still chasing that part number :mrgreen:

Have you called Mazda dealer spare parts?

If they insist on a VIN just add any 3 last digits:
Aust del 1989=> NA6 version 1: JM0NA306100100XXX
Aust del 1992=> NA6 revision 2: JM0NA306200100XXX
Aust del 1993=> NA8 revision 3: JM0NA30P300100XXX
Aust del 1995=> NA8 revision 4: JM0NA30P400100XXX

A photo might help. An sbu has the same lugs on the back as a replaceable insert eg 5604. So my theory is that an sbu will not fit either. The standard set up is that the sbu or insert is located into a housing which has cut outs / apertures and are held in place by a retaining rim- these are "normally" a standard which was used for many cars. If a headlight system is a custom one ie exclusive to RX7 then it is a different ball game and only the Mazda part will fit straight in. I would have thought Mazda can confirm a p/nbr.

You have never dealth with Mazda :lol:

That's why I purchase my own manuals and give them the numbers. Secondly I go through different channels to get the parts.

A SBU from either an MX-5 or RX-7 with fit the retainer ring. The retainer ring however is specfic to the model of the car so they are non interchangeable. The SBU is.

Mazda Parts specified that they only came with a sealed beam unit.

My ADM NA8 doesn't have sealed beams & they are OEM. They are:
On the glass:
"Koito
H4
[etc]"

On outside of reflector:
"12V60/55W
997-16125
364 [or] 964
HC/R
E4 [circled] 17.5
02098R20"

those markings do not tell you anything useful for a consumer- just the manufacturers approvals ( E4 is e mark approval issued in the Netherlands) etc. As stated earlier it is normal that sealed beams are replaceable with inserts but some systems may be custom made.

I put some H4 front lights in my son's NA6, its not an OEM part but if you're interested I could find out the brand and part number for you.

They also have a parking light built into the lens.
