Gauge Clusters - NB8A

Ok, a few questions.

#1:
Can you simply plug a new cluster into the car, ie: is the ECU going to freak and do something stupid if it picks up the cluster has higher/lower km than the car actually does.
(pretty sure it's a simple plug and play, but want to check)

#2:
Japanese clusters have a different speedometer (it stops at 180kph, but also has different spacing between numbers)
If I plug a Jap cluster into my car will the speedo needle move at the correct rate (ie: will it show the correct speed, and the cluster sets the rate the needle moves)

#3:
Pretty certain I know this, but I'll ask anyway.
the KM shown on the odometer, are they set by the ECU or the cluster?
I'm pretty sure the cluster holds them, so if a car has 100,000km and I put in a cluster with 200,000km, the odometer will show 200,000km.


Apologies for the questions, I'm considering putting in a Japanese cluster.
Just need to track one down that's got roughly the same KM as my car.

Easy answers

#1 - Will plug straight in no worries
#2 - The speedo will read the same :)
#3 - The cluster holds the Km's..if you are good with a soldering iron you can just swap the chip over to the new cluster and have your true km's

I installed a Mazdaspeed cluster in my 8B. swapped the chip over easy as!
MY07 NC, Mazdaspeed Body, Ohlins, Full GWR Exhaust, 17x9 RPF1's, 4.1FGR and lots lots more

NB = Electronic Odometer.

Adding to #1 - your fuel gauge will NOT be accurate because the starting point is different.

What you can do is take a photo of the exact position of the fuel gauge BEFORE you've swapped the gauge over and make sure you tune the dial to where it should be.

Tuning = use some gloves, pull the dial out, push it back in at the right angle.
