QUESTION: Light Weight NA Sump
Is it feasible to construct a carbon fibre sump in the never-ending quest to lightweight the MX-5?

It's certainly possible, but would be incredibly risky.
If it were to be hit ti would most certainly crack or shatter, whereas metal is more malleable and may well jsut dent instead.

Hell no! Carbon is too brittle and will shatter on the smallest impact. I like my oil inside the engine, not all over the track.
Also, you'll have a hell of a time trying to find resin which will tolerate the heat.
