Can't turn off alarm on the 5

Postby honki3rider » Tue Oct 18, 2011 3:16 pm

So I can't disable the alarm to start the car. Any ideas? Key fob buttons dont work even with a fresh battery. Tried the key in door, lock and unlock trick but to no avail. Looks like it is a factory alarm. Also have a flashing red led on the steering column.

Any help is appreciated as the car is almost an hour from home.

Hmmm, not to sure on this one. Your best bet would be the RACQ road side assistant's they can turn it off in 10 min's and start your car.

Managed to disconnect the horns and start the car with the alarm screaming silently.

Got home, yanked the POS alarm out and everything is working as per before except the alarm is forever disabled. Anyone know if this is the factory alarm or aftermarket? Located behind the drivers RHS kickpanel.

Can't turn off alarm on the 5

Had a look underneath the dash and the wiring for it wasn't oem neat. Electrical tape and the clip on splice things were used. But the alarm is also integrated onto the key fob, as well as the 01 being highlighted on the black box leads me to believe it may be oem. Will probably take it to an alarm guy to maybe see if he can revive it or just put in another one.

I had the same problem on mine, luckily there was a key to turn it off attached to the key fob I got when I bought the car!
At the same time though the remote central locking stopped working, so I think there's a weird electrical fault somewhere which is triggering the alarm + stuffing up the remote. Normal central locking works fine from the keyhole

it is certainly not OEM. I reckon these alarms are more trouble than they are worth- very common to cause problems- call outs to RAC- car will not start etc etc. When they do trigger most people just ignore them anyway.

Can't turn off alarm on the 5

If you don't care for the alarm, leav the horn out and just use it for central locking. As mr morlock says, nobody listens to them and they all sound the same. I nearly did this until I saw how complex the wiring was on my aftermarket and not matching the manufacturers manual so I didn't know what to disconnect.

The module is currently sitting in a box in my room now. Ahh, the sound of serenity. Will probably end up getting another alarm fitted in just for a piece of mind.

Seriously my aftermarket alarm p15535 me off sometimes, it is so easy to bump the buttons and inevitably set it off. but central locking is priceless.
