Engine rebuild parts, where to buy

Hi all,
Just had a leak down test on my NA6 and found number three down a little.
So it's time for a little freshen up.
I'm going to need bearings, gaskets, rings, new clutch etc.
Where is the best place to source these parts?

freshen up can mean a number of things and the engine has to be removed stripped and replaced- a costly job with the clutch as well. You can source items through automotive parts suppliers such as Bursons but there are many others. A mechanic will have his usual suppliers and trade price is often much less than retail- most of us pay retail. Unless you are doing the job yourself there is often not much if anything to be saved by supplying the item. The best approach is get some quotes and compare.

Fair call
I'm a industrial sparky / mechanical fitter by trade
It's been a 15 years sence the last time I rebuilt a motor
I'm just going to strip the motor hone and deck the block, new bottom end bearings, piston rings
Shave the head , clean up the ports, valves, new cam bearings etc.
Gaskets seals etc.
Then rev the pants off it, hopefully.
I've had a look at the fm rebuild kit. $600 seems ok.
I was just going to do the rebuilding work at home.

I often think about swapping my ageing 1.6 SNC for a lower KM unit and then having my engine on a stand for 6 months as I slowly teach myself how to take apart and then put together my engine again, replacing all the bearings and seals along the way... not hard, just a long term project. I have an Australian Mazda NA6 workshop manual... all I need is the moral fibre to dive in and get it done.

Thats what I'm planning on doing. I got lucky the other day, while hunting around for a motor to rebuild.
I fell a$$ backwards into this deal. JDM inport for $900 91ks with pappers and service book, import pappers the lot. Motor is tight as a drum. I've run it up and down my street, runs alot better than my old motor.

So I'm good to go for parts for sometime now, probley will need them the way I drive this. (Big lack of talent behind the wheel)

So I should be stripping the car down for parts, once I've cleaned out the shed.

Hi All,
Just about completed, other than the timing belt and cleaning up the red sealant on the block.
I found the torque team in Brisbane are really good to deal with (ask for glen). They balanced the motor, flywheel, cutch etc and fitted the rings and bottom end bearings. Gave the head a good working over. With a new valve grind (5 angle) and shaved the head.
MX5 plus supplied the 2nd hand motor and new lightened fly wheel. Richard was great to deal with.
Gaskets and timing belt where sourced over seas, from Rosenthal Arlington Mazda, ordered and had the parts within 5 days with good shipping rates.
All up it’s cost me around the 2.5k mark, so as long as I’ve put it back together right, it should be a good’n.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I didn't want to create a new thread for this recommendation. Just had the Torque Team (Brisbane) rebuild my engine (similar treatment as above), fit my new clutch and flywheel, swap my power steering rack for a manual one (supplied by MX5+) and remove all air-con components all in 5 days! VERY happy with their work! What's even better is they stayed on budget and stuck to the quote they gave me (until they found my coil pack had a big crack in it and had leaking acid everywhere/corroded everything :lol:

).

I highly recommend Torque Team for engine work! Friendly staff, good price, quick turn around, everything still seems to be working fine so good quality as well :lol:
