My NEW Cusco LSD 1.5 way needs running in!

Postby mxfive95 » Sat Oct 15, 2011 4:27 pm

I finally got to getting it installed after almost 2 years sitting in the 'Pool room' LOL.

Its obviously very tight and shatters alot so i want to go somewhere this weekend and do figure 8's :D somewhere preferably legal  like a big carpark in the middle of nowhere.

Please PM me with areas.

Cheers Craig.

P.S. i will be recording it and posting on youtube 8)

By trash it, do you mean put in a bag and leave it by the side of the road? This is a very odd thread.

When I put my diff in, I went to an industrial estate on a weekend and drove figures 8s for over 1/2 an hour.
All it did was make me dizzy, and bored.. Diff still chattered its head off.

Then took it along to the next track day, ran it all day there, and then when I got it home changed the diff oil and its been quiet ever since..

Sure beat the boredom of figure 8s...

+1 ... once you've dríven it around for about 500kms, best thing is to take it out for a decent twisty run, and a track-day or two... my diff still shatters though :P (can we ban Der-Schpellink-Nazi-DJmiata? don't think so...) although I don't mind it. It's the thirst for rear tyres that's the worry..

A few W.A. members have been through this, chat to MX52NV, he should know where to find the recommended running in procedure.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Well after doing allot of spirited driving (800 od kms) i changed the diff oil to motul with an additive. it still shattered allot so i thought there must be another way.

So last night a dicided to drive in circles clockwise and anti in first gear keeping the car around 5-10kms. i noticed at the start it shattered for about 5 secs when taking off then it stopped and was replaced by a fluid gridding noise (very hard to discribe) and no shattering. I did this for 10 mins and by the end the diff was only shattering for 3 secs.

Today i went on a skid pan day and let loose trying to drift (very hard to do in a car set up for track and no turbo  but lots of fun none the less 8) ). I found this the best way to wear in the diff as it hardly shatters now, I also set my rear sway bar to hard and this seems to have helped with the added bonus of more grip(not sure how this is though, will have to research). Obviously it is a very tight diff in a very light car so I think it will always have some degree of shatter.. Hopefully now i wont get weird looks from the neighbours
