Wanting to change the radio in my daughters 2001 Ford Laser LXI ( a radio that looks pretty much identical to my NB8B radio) from the double Din to a single DIN type.
1. Do I need a special tool to remove it?
2. Does someone make a new one piece panel to facilitate the conversion to end up with a single DIN radio and change compartment etc under or over?
Pete

If it is near identical to the NB8B (Mazda-Ford family) have a read of this.

Pete, can you post a photo up?
If it's am enclosed DIN space like the NCs then it'll be more difficult. Either way, you'll need to resource a single din compartment to fill the gap.

Re: NB8B radio change to single din
Revivng an old thread
I have purchased a single din bluetooth unit for my SE, and want to replace the stock double din headunit with it and some gauges as per the photo below. I read through the thread mentioned above, but it's quite old and a lot of the photos are missing. The wiring adapters sound like a good idea, so thought I'd ask if anyone knows the best place to source these currently? Also, what other parts will I need to complete the conversion?
Cheers Paul.

Re: NB8B radio change to single din
Given that's my car in the image above I suppose I'd better answer.....
Parts used were;
- cradle for the single DIN radio (supplied with the radio)
- 3 gauge, single DIN, gauge holder (sourced from MX5 parts in the UK)
- 2 cable adaptors, Mazda -> Universal & Universal -> Alpine. Unfortunately there was no direct Mazda -> Alpine adaptor available for my vintage of car. (both sourced from eBay)

Thanks for the reply Nevyn, hope you didn't mind me using your photo
Is this the Gauge holder you used? Says it's for below the radio, but assumed it worked ok where you installed it?

Otherwise there's this one.

Wiring adapter/s are the way to go for sure, just need to source the right one for my Sony headunit I guess. Hopefully pick it up today and then I can see what connection I have.

Re: NB8B radio change to single din
It might be handy for you to know that I'm about to de-audio my car, which currently has a good Alpine single DIN head unit with all that's needed to install it apart from blanking plate. Can all be had for a fair price.
Also about to remove cruise control.

The adapters can also be purchased at autobarn etc.
They work well, but double check the listing.
The one I bought, which was supposedly for Mazdas of my nb8a vintage wasn't even close to the plug.
I just cut off the oem plug and soldered the new Sony plug onto the loom.

Re: NB8B radio change to single din
Thanks Dave, but I have already purchased this Sony unit.

This is the back of the unit.
Looks like I'll need the Aerpro APP072 Mazda Iso harness
and the Aerpro APP8SP3 Sony to Iso harness.
Sound right?
