Century "Maintenance free" battery - sealed?
My roadster has the wrong battery and has been corroding the boot floor = need new battery.
Local battery shop can't get the Supercharge GT something that everybody on here is recommending (including Supercharge themselves) because there's "no stock" apparently (sure)
She is recommending this for $140
http://www.centurybatteries.com.au/sear ... ies/ID-287
Says it's "maintenance free", so i said "but is it sealed", "yes fully sealed"
Is it a goer? I have read some threads ppl saying there is no fully sealed Century battery..
Thoughts?

Maintenance free is not fully sealed as they still vent fumes.
As it doesn't have a vent connection it will vent into the boot area.
Not a problem for a car with the battery under the bonnet but not good for a MX5
Have a look at this one from MX5Mania SSB Replacement Batteries

Hi Marty85
If you use the search function, you will find this subject has been ccovered comprehensively on what is the right battery for our cars. Everyone has a different view but at one point there was some very valuable input from a wealth of knowledge. Ill head you in the right direction with this link.

Just check the height with a Century. The recommended battery for an NA is quite tall. You do have about an inch clearance in there above it, but if you need to regularly disconnect your battery (like me) then it will be a pain.

Thanks for all the tips. GT12-35HR is the one I spoke to Supercharge about, then my local battery shop. But she "called" Supercharge to order one in and there was "no stock", but they could get seconds with no warranty for $120, "..so you may as well just get a Century".
MX5 Mania is a bit of a trek for me from Southern Sydney. Anybody recommend a good battery shop in my area?
Another local battery shop wants to sell me the Federal AGM battery for around $220 from memory. That is an option but obviously more expensive.

I've got the federal AGM in mine and it has given no problems, it also has the breather tubes.

Re: Century "Maintenance free" battery - sealed?
echoing what others have said, yes, it looks suitable pending actual fitment/size. If you compare physical size, CCA and other specs with other batteries and they are the same, odds on they come from the same factory and just branded differently.
Someone else found a decent price and specced battery, Manga Blue?
Are there no Autobarn or Bursons anywhere nearby?
I'm assuming you're going to get the corrossion looked at immediately?

old dude provided a good link. If you buy just on price you are going to get an ordinary battery with the usual short life. Its pretty clear that some of the sellers think that an AGM has something to do with a meeting and will sell you the wrong product.

Re: Century "Maintenance free" battery - sealed?
I just got the Federal sealed, maintenance free AGM made in USA, perfect fit, has the vents, everything on the correct side, fits the tray. $236 from a shop 3mins drive from my home. I ran out of patience trying to find the Supercharge (they were all out of stock) and other cheapies. Got some spot rust under the battery tray, I'll have to treat that within the next month.
