Wassup's Na6 - Toad

Postby wassup » Wed Sep 28, 2011 10:35 pm

Hi all,

Even before i had a license ive always wanted an Mx5. Well some 18 years on and my dream has been fulfilled. My search started several months ago and my wish was to find one in mint, stock condition.

A huge amount of the credit goes to the previous owner who has cared for this car for 20 years. Its only done alittle over 100,000k's and came with a folder with receipts for every related purchase and service in chronological order.

The intent is to keep this for as long as possible, hopefully 20 years or more and to keep it as stock as possible.

The changes ive made sofar are:
- New OEM spark plug leads
- iPhone FM modulator (hardwired) into the stock radio. Ive posted details of this in the audio thread.
- Speakers replaced (as the originals had turned to dust)
- Hardtop locking plates replaced
- Crystal clear headlights with Philips xtreme vision bulbs (The stock units are just too dim)
- K&N filter element

There's a sports exhaust which id like to replace with a stock unit but they appear to be hard to find! ideal would be new (is this possible) or a used one in good condition....

Here are some pics, enjoy!

That's awesome! Keeping it stock is a great idea. It's quite easy to ruin the fun factor when you change stuff!

Are you aware that you've actually got NA8 wheels on your NA6? If you were going for originality, you could probably sell the wheels that are on it and pick up some good-condition NA6 wheels and actually make some cash from it as the NA8 wheels are fairly sought-after.

Paul I cannot believe how fast you pick up on the subtle differences. Buy an na already!

The car looks great. All I would do is see if you can get the later model NA8-style rear number plate panel, to go with the wheels!

Nice! As much as I like tinkering with mine I admire your ambition to preserve a piece of history! I just think you should buy a second one to modify =P Notice you have an NB glass window roof, very nice addition!

Photos look great too, good work!

Wassaauuuppp...

Keeping it real and classic..
Personally I like the exhaust note but I can understand it can be a tad too loud.
Maybe someone on this forum will have an original (in good nick) muffler stored away somewhere..

Awesome find! You have to love an unmolested, original NA. Especially in white. Owning a red NA myself, I wish I had a white NA as NA's (and NB8B's) are a rare car that look really good in white. Looks in incredible condition.

I reckon every owner of a modded NA wishes they had another stock NA in their garage. I do!

95er I completely agree with you! Its amazing what's out there..plenty of modified NA's but at another level there is just as many original's coming onto the market. Not as nice as some of the modded but once you've got one of each it is so hard to part with either one. Every now and then I drive my '97 model with 30000k's (oh so tight) but hop into my modded '92 and just love it!

Hi Jace

I rushed home from work today hoping I could take it for a spin out to La Perouse and get a few pics with the setting sun but missed out by 15mins! Pity the weather isn't going to be great over the long weekend

Tomorrow morning I'm going to give it a polish and wax. Hopefully next weekend I can take it out!

Ill be sure to make available any great pics in high res.

Thanks for all the positive comments so far guys!
