Have you made your MX5 Flocking Awesome?

Postby Bizi » Wed Sep 21, 2011 6:12 pm

Hi all,
Recently I've noticed some really impressive DIY work here on interiors but I'm curious if anyone here has treated their interior to a flocking?

It looks great in this MX5nutz thread. The instrument and steering column surrounds in the first post is nice but check out the work of Ron the flocker...post #9 but your eyes will know once you hit his bordello style interior...

http://www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=65612

I don't know if anyone's used a professional to do this but it would be great to do as a group buy if we found a good vendor.

Would you believe I've been considering doing this...?
My interior is ugly and just not appealing to the misses. Ive been thinking.

Dann is worried about what his GF thinks.

And this is a zero weight add on that helps the car be a bit nicer daily.

I've been meaning to do my A pillars in this type of material for aaages. Makes me want to do the cowl too. Doing more would just be overkill imo and will make the interior look and feel tacky.

Id be keen on making dead flat carbon door trims with leather pulls. And flocking the top part of the trims, the upper dash (the very top bit) and the cowl and steering column cover. I think that would look great.

The people posting in that mx5nutz thread only have good things to say about Ron's flocking skills.

Other questions were about how easy it is to keep clean.

Durability/fading in the Aussie sun is something I'd like to know about.

It's been used on car floors, boots etc as a lightweight sound deadener too.

I found these in the NSW yellow pages, but would appreciate anyone's feedback if they've done this before.

Marty, I read that different kinds of fibres can be used, so you might be able to get different finishes with different fabrics & densities.

Well suede is the other alternative, but isnt flocking... How do I say it... Finer? Like shorter 'fur'.?

That is quite funny. Particularly in light of the name of the thread.

Anyway I digress..

Unless he was named Dirk I can't think of a more appropriate name for a flocker.

Good to see someone got the joke.

Can look pretty dusty/dirty quickly, might not be the best for a convertible, seen a few WRX's that have done it.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
