You already have enough power :P would love to get an idea of the costs.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Errm - cost, this is the scary bit, i have not really totalled things up - so the engine could end up being worth more than the car

(these prices include shipping)
Engine - $300
pistons - $883
Rods - $962
Oil Pump - $600
Valves/springs/retainers/head gasket - $1300 (approx not got invoice yet)
Flywheel / Clutch - $460
Machine Shop - $1500 (approx, not got final head bill)
Injectors - $64
COPs - $155
Gasket Set - $140 (from UK)
Intake Manifold - $240
Harmonic Balancer - $300 (I think)
Studs - $220 (ish from memory)
Bearings - $150 (ish from memory)

So that is a grand total of $7250, and about 50 hours of my time for head work and assembly. I still don't have any cams yet, so I think about $8500 will be the total bill - what I paid for the car :D

This is where everyone says, should have gone turbo, cost less, more power, etc.... all comments welcome

More power yes, more torque yes...But done really well a turbo set up is not really any cheaper than that at all and also carries the other issues of massive heat etc.

Forced induction is fun but it also completely changes the character of the car so it is not for everyone.

Staying NA also gives you a bit of advantage in motorsport as you are not chucked in with the AWD Jap turbo guys.

Good points - I guess a good turbo is into 4 figures. Plus it is always cool when people come over for a chat and the first thing they say is - 'turbo'd' then there eyes widen when I say 'no 1.6 NA' 8)

Looking forward to getting up to barbs went it is done, we will have coordinate something and compare notes - looking forward to seeing the race car :D

You are pretty handy behind the wheel though!!

You will have to be quick getting the car finished and up to Barbs...the circuit is closed December 10th (if I remember rightly) through to the end of March for the upgrade work.

I keep looking at the pictures of your front splitter and thinking what sort of difference it could make to my car. It is already foot to the floor in 5th through the esses but with a properly sticky front end I wonder what sort of speed I could carry through the looooong left hander and over the top of the hill...hmmm...

Oh really? I don't think Warwick is aware of this as he was telling me last week about booking it in 2012 January second week for a MX5 club competition event. :?

I've found the media release for it here -> clicky. It does say that there "may be windows where track activity could take place"... so maybe... :?:

Parts supply is the main problem right now - I cannot find anywhere to get some bronze valve guides.

Maybe maybe...Guess it all depends on the progress of the work being done and I would assume the club (WASCC) will get pick of the dates available.

I've not even been in Singapore for a week and this thread is really making me miss home already!

God damn I wish I could come out to Barbagallo again and run with everyone, never got a chance to take the car out there with the AFCOs...

Looks awesome Si and I'll be checking in to see how you go when you hit the track again, keep us posted.

I will see what I can find.

On the barbagallo front, I went up there last night - we ran the long track in the dark for half the time, talk about mad, you could not see a thing. I ran with my top quality 'super cat' tyres and they were actually not that bad, sure not as quick as the A050s but they held up really well. About 4 seconds slower on the short track and the car is well balanced again when you put equal pressures in the tyres rather than the 36psi rear and 30psi front set up for the club autokhana :D

I think that is it now, time to start taking the motor out, plus it is our babies due date today, so it is only a matter of time.

BTW buy the engine bits now before school fees, books, clothes, school trips, dentists, orthodontists, food, tutors, musical instruments etc. use up the rest of your toy money. :lol:
