Re: billybunters - from a bmw z4 to a mx5 se
hi all
finally got it through the grey matter on how to post the video................ thanks to stu. will do that later
today the weather only got to 12 degrees but good enough to prime - rub and top coat the rear end section and top and clear coat the boot.
primed rear end of the se yesterday. today it was rubbed back with 600 wet/dry sandpaper. let dry then wiped over with grease/wax remover
inside the boot was previously primed rubbed back ( again with 600 wet/dry) wiped with grease/wax remover and two top coats applied
two more coats were then applied and left to dry for 20 minutes. followed on by 3 or 4 top coats of clear.
here;s a good example of the shine ( gloss)
another shot of the boot
end results
probably a video following later on today.

Re: billybunters - from a bmw z4 to a mx5 se
at the moment most of the spraying has been done with this small detail hvlp spray gun. in tight areas i use a clean bit of card board - gun in right hand and the card board in the left. using the cardboard as a blocker for the over spray. most cases works a treat
side rear view giving an idea on how white and bright the colour is. on this panel all the white paint will be rubbed out and blended in
interior of boot has been top and clear coated. this area is completed
always annoyed by this chicken - day after day.

interesting ............. but too much work. it looks a bit like a triumph gt6 and a nice batch of filler too. it brings back memories from the past.prior to the re-paint of the mustang in 91 i bought a hr ute. actually it was the very first car i painted.
i paid an apprentice panel beater to come to my house and get the dents out. he started banging them out and apart from that put 3 can of classic gold or 12 litres of filler in the dents. totally filled all the panels with bog.
never got him back again
here's another good one - had some rust repairs to do on the floor of the same hr holden.
there was a guy advertising home welding in the local paper. gave him a call and he arrive quickly and the quote was good.
next day he arrived and got into the job. told him what i wanted and left it at that.
about 10am the wife said maybe your friend would like a cup of coffee. i stepped out the front door and smoke was coming from the garage.
ran down to the garage and saw the welder inside the cabin and sparks flying everywhere. only 4 metres away the hr holdens bench seat was on fire and parked next to it was a 20 litre can of auto thinners.
almost sh... myself. i quickly pulled the burnt seat outside the garage and brought the welding to a stop.
end results were no charge for the welding and a new bench seat at my expense.

only had time today to do the underside of the boot lid - from rub back to top coat and clear.
just been hit with the 600 wet/dry sanpaper. allowed to dry and wiped over with grease/wax remover
part way through the artic white top coat
undercoated - rubbed back - top coat and clear added . job done
the end results from the underside of the boot spray

Good story!
Here's one with maybe less filler and more skiller. In your choice of colour.

Just keep the car white and add green wheels and see if someone else goes green with envy.
Now who could be painting their car white and their wheels green?
Here's another jelly one...
