MX5 Plus new TALL BOY bar

Does anyone have one of these installed?

I have been speaking to a few Roll Bar Engineers to get something in my NA that allows me to be 50mm under it.
This looks to be alot closer to what i am after and fits under the softtop.

It appears that it only gains the extra height in the middle of the car.
I guess that would still keep Cams happy?
Just after anyones experience with this Bar and how much extra height did it add?

My guess is that, as a rule of thumb, if it fits under the softtop, it isn't gouing to give you any more clearance than a 'standard' one.

Looks awesome, I kind like it it's like the BD bar and mx5 Plus bar had a baby^

I would think the same as dave, unless the roof only fits via stretching the way you will gain clearance would be to lower your seating position.

yeah, it does look pretty good but i do agree that it prob will not gain much distance.
I just really do not want to pay for a BD or similar bar and not be low enough.
I am 182 cms, so i think i will have some issues.

Have a meeting with Adam @ agi-precision Saturday morning to see what they can come up with.

Hopefully something that does not entail me to never be able to use my softtop :D

Will post up anything of interest that comes about from the talk.

Appears the extra height is achieved by moving the bar further forward in the cab thereby allowing greater height.
Having a look at the seat belt tower mounting point, in the single and double hoop bar, the mount is in front of the hoop.
The tall boy bar has it behind the hoop.

If you look at the seat belt tower mounting bolt position on the two bars the tall boy bar would probably be sitting a good 75mm further forward, and by doing so allows it to sit in a higher part of the top.

Thanks for the replys guys.
So by sitting more forward you would be losing seat travel with it i imagine.
I will give MX5 PLUS a call this Saturday to find out details, as losing travel could be an issue, as i need the bar to be taller due to the fact i am taller :lol:
All depends really on how much travel is lost.

I see you are 180 cm tall
I'm 175 I looked at this bar and it was no good for the 50mm over head For me
Might get there with the seat bolted to the floor but if it's a street car not legal
Mx5 plus do make a race bar but u won't fit a roof on

It is a great bar for road but if your looking to race no good

How much will the diagonal brace impede rear visibility? One of the things that I like about the other two MX-5 Plus designs is that they look like they won't really impede visibility at all.

I am not looking to at door to door racing, but Supersprints and more importantly Hill Climbs.
Hillclimb guys, at least at Wollongong, really enforce the 50mm rule.
People seem to be getting away with it at Supersprints, with the BD bar. But having my head above a roll bar seems a little dumb. :shock:

RWF, i assume that was using a race seat?
PaulF, good point, though for me anyways, rear vision in a MX5 with a soft top up is rubbish at the best of times.

I have written this elsewhere, but heigth is not the issue, it is how long your head/trunk is. Or, tall with long legs is better than tall with short legs. Some shorties have this problem too, because they have short legs and a (relatively) long trunk.

So, don't compare heigths, the only way to find out is to measure the distance seat to top of head (obviously you will need someone else to do the measuring ...), and then you can do some serious comparisons with valid results for you (or anyone else with that measurement).

Dropping seat heigth is a good way to get around the problem, to the point of having no padding and sitting on the floor if necessary. :shock:

Bit of a bump up here.

Was wondering if anyone has installed one of these bars in their car yet?
If so, are you impressed with the product. Did you find that it restricted seat travel?

Dweezle, did you speaking to agi-precision? Did anything come out of it?

I never got time to go see AGI.
Though they are on my list once i get more of this Turbo build sorted.

I want Roll protection that is actually above my head.
I would almost lose the soft-top for that ability.

AGI want to do some measurements with the car to see what can be done.
Hopefully Come up with something new.

If you need a roof then a hard top with the main hoop shaped to fit tight inside is the only way to do it and even then still might be marginal.

If the main hoop goes to the floor immediately in front of the rear firewall it will be under a taller bit of roof. You wont be able to push your seat all the way back but if you have a fixed seat you will end up with it adjusted closer to the steering wheel anyway.
