I didn't think it was that light but with a little forum searching I have this from Bryan. In this old thread http://www.aus-cartalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=37346

The 955kg kerb weight includes a full tank of fuel (or is it 90% full - not quite sure) plus the oil and coolant. I'm not sure what figure is quoted in the original MX-5 manual - don't have it with me to check. However a figure of 930kg seems to float around (eg redbook) and perhaps that corresponds to the dry weight?

BTW, EU kerb weights tend to include a 90% tank filling, 68 kg for the driver and 7 kg for luggage.

I stand corrected...so he'd be in the 850-900kg bracket instead. So 150-200kg lighter....

I got it registered this morning (yep, exactly as you saw it on the weekend, perks of the job :) ).
And my rego sticker suggests that its kerb weight is 930kg.

Ive saved 35kg in seats alone. But I have a 6 speed and 4.1. Ill weight it in a couple of weeks and report it.
I have a couple PMs from the weekend asking how I was so quick up the straights, but I was a little disappointed honestly compared to say, stock NCs. I got some wave byes from NCs in group 3 and I walked past them, but it didnt seem that fast, maybe its just the intake/exhaust NCs are pretty damned fast!

My NA8 turbo is about 1090KG post race with its last owner on board. I...ahem...have a more manly carriage....so it would be more like 1100-1110KG with me on board. I know the last owner of the car weighed about 90KG when he last raced it.

As part of the class rules for those last few races it had to have a minimum post race weight of 1050KG so was weighed on its way off the track.

In that class it ran 15 X 7 rims with R888's.

It has a full cro-mo cage, kevlar drivers seat on stock sliders, STI Brembo brakes, turbo and hardware including half an exhaust system, hard top with glass screen and roof lining, no drivers side window and a plastic passenger window, full dash and door trims. Really very little apart from the easy to remove stuff has been removed...I would like to put some more effort in to getting weight out of it and playing with the aero though.

Sorry Dann...rambling on your thread

Working backwards if it was 1090KG post race with a 90KG driver on board one can assume it is 1000KG with only few litres of fuel left in it.

Honestly a race track really sucks any feeling of acceleration out of a car. Mine has 250RWHP which would feel wicked quick on the road but on track just feels adequate. Holding off the brakes until way beyond where a heavier car is braking and being able to carry more of the speed in the corners is where the fun is though.

My V-Max on the long straight at Barbagallo is 6th gear and must be around 220KMH, not sure though as the speedo needle runs off the top of the Jap spec 180KMH dial quite quickly.

Having said all that it is always surprising just how quick some street cars are!

Well I have a LOT removed, and no safetly gear (lol). So it should be pretty light.

It just didnt seem fast compared to other 5s. I watched some video, and it did just run past them, but by memory i dont remember it being fast.

I did out drag the 911 though and he was revving the guts out it. He looked very dissapointed as he waved me by 3/4 down the straight. :D I only just had him, but It doesnt matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winnings winning

Sorry deviant, what was your point mate :P?

You still coming to the newy meetup sunday arvo slug dub, or have I got you confused? Ill bring the laptop. Anyways, no internet at home, im on a phone so no youtube upload sorry.

I missed most of the runs, but I have some video.
I have one of paul passing mizmac (stock na6) on the front straight, he was 40m or so behind, with a much slower turn 10 exit speed, and hes alongside him in 2 gears, then shortshifts, and cruises next to him as mizmac full throttled all the way down.
On that run, paul took 29 seconds from the turn 10 100m braking point until the pit lane start line thing (the big gate thing). And on a run I did open track full throttle I took just 19 seconds for the same section of track. And yet the car still easily passed the stock na6, on the 10 seconds slower run.

Anyways, come sunday and have a drive :D

Hey Dann, I'll get any videos you want posted. I'll put them onto my portable hard drive and upload them to YouTube at home... unless they make me look too bad.

How did you arrive at the 35kg saving?

I've swapped my NB8A drivers seat for a Sparco Sprint V and the drivers seat was only 8kg (without runners) vs 7kg (w/o runners) for the sparco (steel framed so heavy for a race seat) The runners themselves would be lucky to be 5kg prob closer to 2 or 3.

Is there extra weight somewhere, related to the seats, that is removable?

You remove the runners, runners are for people who like their mx5s to weight a tonne (literally :D). total stock weight is 18.5 kg per seat with runners, my new seat is a fibreglass shell, like a go kart shell.

Hmm, didn't know NA seats were that much heavier than NB seats..

I might take my seat runners out and weigh them as even at 5kg would only be 13kg total for drivers seat.. (driver seat without runners was definitely only 8kg)

...Don't fry bacon naked. LOL

As for the seats, The rails weigh a tonne.

Remove the 4 bolts and just weigh the whole thing.
