Engine build Rods Pistons

Postby Novice1 » Wed Sep 07, 2011 6:10 pm

I am going to build up my engine bottom end. Looking for pistons 9:1 compression and H beam forged rods. I have sussed out the other costs of engine rebuild. Just rods and pistons to sort out.
Prices on pistons rods so far.
Pistons:
http://www.shop-cppistons.com/categories/mazda/ $280 each or $1120 plus shipping, taxes.

Mx5mania.com super tech pistons $650

Rods:
Flyinmiata.com carillo h beam rods $1230 plus shipping taxes

Mx5mania.com carillo h beam rods $1550

Mania currently have a special on carillo h beam rods and super tech pistons for $1950

Anyone with any other ideas, bring em on.

I'm running Eagle rods and Wiseco pistons - bought the lot for under $1500 in the US. Shop around and you'll find some good deals. Both are great brands with really good reputations.

If your shooting for about 300 - 350rwhp supertech rods and pistons are proven and cheap. Should go for a 1mm (84mm from 83mm standard, will work with oem headgasket) overbore also.

Or if you have money to burn and or shooting for big power go with carrilo h beams and wiseco pistons.

Not really shooting for a particular figure Dave. I believe the Garrett t28 is good for 300hp however.
Just trying to keep the car safe with the current power output.
Thanks for the links.

Also i'm sure your aware to use arp everything.

You will reach the limits of your diff and gearbox before you reach the limits of the Supertech pistons or 949 Racing Rods.

M-Tuned also sells good rods for a cheap price. The same rods can also be purchased from verious eBay sellers for even less, but when buying from M-Tuned you get a more closely matched set in terms of weight (at least if you believe what M-Tuned say).

Lol, I dont know why youd go to carillos what the M Tuned rods are well well proven, savington uses M Tuned/Supertech in all his builds, and runs 400rwhp in his track car. Has done for years.

If the m-tuned were available I would be laughing. Unfortunately I am not prepared to wait till feb 2012 for them to be in stock.

try pistons for the automatic cars, they generally run 9 to 1 in the 1.6 cars, not sure about the 1.8 though. The stock pistons/rods are sufficent if you are not trying for obscene amounts of power. After all, they started out in a turbocharged application didn't they? I can source a set with rings over here in the U.S. for a little over a hundred bucks.
