I need new tyres, help?

Postby paulau » Fri Jul 08, 2011 3:57 pm

Hi,

I need some new tyres for my NA, they are 195/50/R15.

I am after a good all around tyre at hopefully a good price, does any one have any reccomendations in Melbourne?

Thanks,
Paul

for a daily Yokohama A.Drives are not bad, they are around $140 ish fitted up here, they will handle daily driving no probs with the odd bit of spirited driving.

People here seem to love the Bridgestone Potenza Adrenaline line (RE001 or RE002), or if they're too expensive, the Kumho KU31 gets good reviews as well.

I'm not sure of the prices, but a good wheel and tyre shop should be able to tell you.

I'm a fan of the Bridgestone Potenza Adrenaline :BROADY:
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Ditto for the Bridgestones Adrenalins too. I've been using the RE001's for years now and very happy with them.

A new version was released recently - RE002. They seemed to be cheaper than the older RE001 of equivalent size. :? But can't provide you feedback on the new RE002's performance.

Check out (if you haven't already got tyres) the eBay Kumhos thread, cheap KU31s from Tempe Tyres with free delivery until next week.

I saw those eBay sepcials, pretty cheap but how are those Kuhmo KU31's in terms of grip wise though?

Khumos from Tempe are made for Asian climates. They harden faster. So if you don't wear your tyre out quick enough I wouldn't buy it. That's just my opinion.

What you pay is what you get, but for the price they sell it at, very reasonable :D

I'd pay a little extra and potenza all the way :D ( my opinion )

KU31's are about $102 fitted and balanced and Yokohama S drives(much better than A Drives) $165 at Associated Tyres in Cheltenham (Michael)if that helps.

I have used both the Yokohama S Drive and the Kumho KU31 and in my opinion the KU31 offers better grip in both dry and wet situations!

Just shows that all car set ups and all drivers have different opinions and i have also dríven on both and would have the Yoko's everytime even considering the price difference.

i am considering KU36's (about $180)as i only do about 8000 klms per year(mostly spirited!) and the ageing factor comes into it so grip is more important than wear..

Not saying that you are wrong saboteur but just illustrating that different set ups and driving styles suit different tyres.

Problem is that we can't go to the dealer and have a real test of tyre vs tyre!

Whatever Yoko's, Kumho's and Bridge's all seem to have supporters and a reasonable prices.

Our MX-5 has KU36s all round. They outperform previously fitted Bridgestone RE050A and Yoko R1R IMHO and are heaps cheaper. One of our other car has Yokos on the front and KU31s on the rear. The rears have better grip IMHO. The other "other car" has Toyo Teo all round and they are fine for commuter driving. Very quiet, very good grip and fairly cheap IMHO....but I'll be getting Kumho KU31 or KU36 when the Toyos wear out.
