Re: advice on megasquirt
Your car only runs one cam set and just changes the overlap/duration not the size/lift. The only way to get big cams is to fit them instead of the ones you have and enjoy the lopey idle that comes with them

Re: advice on megasquirt
It doesnt even change duration. Only timing. Like a single, adjustable on the fly cam gear.

Now just to buy some huge medievil weapon like sticks (think huge lumpy lobes, so it would make a great club)

Re: advice on megasquirt
Ive used camtech in sydney most recently. Was under 200 a cam before postage, for regrinds. Also try waggett. Call tighe. Any of the obvious places can do regrinds in a standard profile or custom for pretty cheap.

Re: advice on megasquirt
Its MUCH cheaper, and much more flexible/upgradeable.
I dont know a lot about the adaptronic. But the MS does everything you will ever need with sooooooo much more support/community for much cheaper.

I've just ordered a kit and will be starting the MS journey very shortly.
I think the biggest diference is that I expect I won't be able to take my car to any mechanic or tuner with the MegaSquirt - very few local people have seen or heard of them.
In saying that, Dann is correct, the online community is way bigger with MegaSquirt. A lot more people have added MegaSquirt to a MX5 than probably any other standalone ECU.
So if you like tinkering yourself, have no intention of taking anywhere for help, and would be happy waiting a few days for the community to respond to emails etc, and wish to save a few buck and have the good feeling that "doing it yourself" provides, than MegaSquirt is the way to go. If you want local support where you can take it back and fix any tuning/idle/running issues, then buy whatever the local guy says is best (if that is Adaptronic then get that, otherwise get what they recommend if you intend on going back to complain).
As example of the cost difference, I've been able to get an ECU with + brand new Wideband O2 sensor/controller and air temp sensor (to delete the MAF out of the intake) incl a PnP wiring harness and tuning cables for way under the cost of just the Adaptronic unit itself (and note that Wideband O2 sensors/controllers cost $199 normally). Fitting is free (my time) and I walk away being more educated about engine mgmt systems.
