Safety yellow suits it, people can see it when it's broken down at the side of the road.
Nice job with the stripes as well.
What colour for the mx5, or are you keeping it for a surprise?

Re: billybunters - from a bmw z4 to a mx5 se
hi bootz
i'm afraid that wasn't a dog. .....that was me. glad you liked the stripes. overall it isn't a bad example of a mgf. when purchase 2 plus years ago it was a one owner. prior to the sale and 3 months out of warranty the original owner ........you guessed it - cooked the motor.
cost the guy $8k for repairs with receipts to prove it. so i knew that was the number one killer of the mgf -hgf so i bought it and fitted the low level warning coolant tank plus a heap of other stuff
in theory that car owes me $22k but its now the daughters.what are they really worth. to a smart person nothing look then walk away!
im open to thoughts on a colour scheme as i'm a fair bit away from that.
prior to paint i am going to take my time with the strip down and prep as i want to do a fairly good job.
i have no choice but to paint it under cover of the pergola or garage - same place as i've painted a dozen other cars. i just wrap the area in plastic. brings the temp up - keeps out the wind and the thought of bugs blown across fresh paint.
probably plan to prime within a week. might have it completed in 2 weeks. lucky ive wrapped and taped the parts. i seen to have quite a few.
you would be surprised how many people ask me - do you still have the mx5. not long ago i went through 7 cars in 1 year. as an example the alfa gtv 3.0 one page 1. lasted 1 week .
over-all i think i've got a pretty good car. sometimes it's greener picking over the other side of the fence. i feel i've been on that side of the paddock several times. believe me the mx5 is a great car and if it wasn't it would have been gone long ago.
a friend of mine rang last night and got the wife. he asked where i was. she said stripping his mx5 for a repaint.
he replied there nothing wrong with the paint on the car. she replied. john that cheaper than the second choice - in the car and a trip to sydney to buy another one.
now that wife sure is a considerate person indeed! - after painting i might even let her take it for a run but no carparks.
regards

COLOUR SUGGESTION: Lava Orange - that's a MSM colour that we didn't get in Australia; your car would be unique in Australia but with an official MSM colour which would elevate it to one of the most desirable MSMs here.

I really think that your stripes add to the character of the mgf. The lines on the Mx-5 are more curvy so I don't really see the need, unless you are an extrovert.

I think you are mad repainting over perfectly good paint, but Lava Orange is a great idea!
Maybe matched with a set of '05 SE wheels if you can tolerate the ride?

Re: billybunters - from a bmw z4 to a mx5 se
emma had no choice really. panel beater wanted $350 to repair/paint a scratch and small dent to the front mud guard. so on sunday i got into the repair - a few hours and $30 for the material it's was looking pretty good again.
today i was hit for a set of tyres - so it's hard to win with that mgf.

previous owner had the car rust proofed. they didn't do much of a job - just sprayed the crap any-where.
in the engine bay it's taken a few hours just to get the sticky stuff off.
