Yes pcmx has exactly the right combo..........it's the nicest MX I've dríven, with instant throttle response just about everywhere, no flat spots. Revs beautifully, sounds fantastic.
Everyone who's dríven it likes it................... :D

pcmx5 wrote:Dann . i can with a 6speed and 3.9 diff it has amazing tracability( but actually had that with the 5sp 4:1), pulls ok from 60 klph on the flat in 6th and will rev to 8000 rpm( not that you need to)

A few people on this forum , Johnd, Chrish . Fun mx and Sav have dríven it and have all said it is amazing, sorry if that sounds a bit up myself, but they said it!!

Just did a run down the GOR yesterday and it is truely a great drive, you can drive it like you knocked it off or like a grandma and it just rewards you every time.
They should have built them like this in my opinion!! However you do need someone who knows what they are doing with the ECU tuning !

I woldn't go much further then my spec for an everyday driver though.

Peter

Again Peter you have forged ahead to where I want to be. Had not read yr dyno post before.

2 Questions. I want to do it for around $1000 but can it be done for under $2000?

Is the VVT going to screw the plan up as well? Not sure if you can answer this one.

You need an ecu, and VVT makes it pretty well impossible for that price. Just off the top of my head.

Bootz,
My understanding is that VVt and the need to shim the cams on an NB8B on does increase the price but i have no real experience.

I am not like Dan and have access to cheap prices or the ability to do any of the work by myself but for my NA8A the cams cost $950, billets (gone up since), I had them fitted with a new cam belt kit ($300 from memory)and the micro tech ECu was fitted .wired in properly, and tuned(which i know Daltons in South Geelong do for about $1800 all up now) so my bill was closer to $3000.

I just love the feel of a tuned naturally aspirated car so never really considered turbo charging(although did briefly flirt with Supercharging for its better drivability) but either are probably cheaper ways of making outright power.

Hope this helps,

Peter.

The issue is finding someone who makes cams for the vvt head.

You could sell your vvt head, buy a regular head, buy huge cams, sell the stock camd, buy a megasquirt, have it tuned, and not be out by more than 2000 i reckon.

Maruha certainly make one at the same 252 duration as mine but then there are other costs as well. They advertise on Miata net.com

Yeah bit they are crazy overpriced, and on top of that, why go to all the hastle and put in tiny 252s? Youll harldy notice the difference..

Sorry Dan, but my comments on drivability (and backed up by everyone who has dríven it and dyno charts) say that it makes a very noticeable difference in power but retains excellent overall performance.

I have Tighe 805c's and they are 254's, for some reason always thought they are 252's, but certainly not "huge" cams.
