So I have this annoying as hell aftermarket immobiliser in the car which requires the driver to hit unlock before starting the car each time. if the car is not started within ten seconds of unlocking, the immobiliser will engage causing the alarm to go off... This means the car won't start and the process must be repeated. I bought the car with this two years ago and learned to deal with it. Well the other night the battery died in the remote button key, leaving me stranded and unable to start the car until someone could drop my spare keys off to me. That was the last straw, this piece of crap has to go.
What do I do????? Its so annoying since the buttons aren't very sensitive, meaning you have to mash unlock over and over until the alarm turns off sometimes! Any advice would be wonderful.

Re: Removing an aftermarket immobiliser??
I have the same/similar kit, annoys the hell out of me as well. I've traced the wires to where they connect and its just a matter of disconnecting them and putting it back to the way before. Look up the wiring diagram for the imoboliser and then the mx5 ignition diagram and figure out which wires you need to disconnect/reconnect..
Mine annoys the sh*t out of me, it also locks itself sometimes with the keys in the ignition, but its hooked up to my remote central locking as well so I've learnt to deal with it till I get another alarm/remote central locking system

there are many stories of aftermarket immobilisers working erratically or preventing the owner from starting their car. Most MX5's are safe as any other car and it is debatable that alarms are of much value. Are MX5's targeted cars? You could remove the alarm and replace it with one that is known to be reliable or simply do not bother.

Re: Removing an aftermarket immobiliser??
MX5s are extremely easy to break into without cutting anything.
Assuming no hardtop of course.
But yeah you have to take the immobilizer out and solder the wires back to how they came, its easy enough as they are colour coded, but any good immobilizer will not have the cars loom wires going directly into it, it will have non colour coded wires coming out and going somewhere difficult like up under the dash, Id strongly suggest removing the dash. Then it will be easy as.

Some of these are a pain to remove, purposely so. Hope yours is one of the easier ones - GL.

an alarm does not stop someone breaking into your car.

Yeah I didn't instal it, the last owner did. Account though, its part of my remote central locking. Can I turn off the immobiliser but keep the central or do I have to get a new kit?

No, but an immobiliser will at least hinder them from driving away in it.

you should be able to bypass the immobiliser by reverting your wiring back to the stock configuration. this will not affect your central locking, as long as you're not removing the alarm from the car at the same time.

Re: Removing an aftermarket immobiliser??
Pretty sure that it is a requirement that the immobiliser has to re arm itself after 38 seconds by law, Which is the way mine is.
10 seconds sounds strange though
Be prepared for a headache as the wires on the Immobiliser will be all black. Good luck
