Re: Cheyne's NA6 Photo Diary Mk2
Nope, nothing like that, like a muffled knocking noise, imagine the sound of lightly tapping your knuckle on a wooden table...
Going over bumps does not set it off. I have found that it will even happen over flat surfaces such as a shopping centre car park, also, i'm not sure if i was just paying too much attention but it seemed louder when turning slowly or reversing.
I can not feel it at all, i can only hear it. This makes me think that it can't be too bad. It did not become any louder after a fairly spirited run through some twisty roads and the occasional bump too.

Hmm well the symptoms sound very similar to a sound I've had in the NA6 since I got it, specifics of how it sounds aside.
I thought changing the suspension would cure it but it was still there after the change.

Can you hear the noise once the car gets over around 40? I cannot hear it above that speed...

Re: Cheyne's NA6 Photo Diary Mk2
I would say I *have* heard it up to 60, as I can hear it quite often while doing any city driving, but mostly less than that and never more than.
It is definitely a low speed noise.

I think he's starting to like the angry Italian. He's spent more time in everything else but a five lately

I get it back tomorrow Dale, it has been very delayed due to them being understaffed. I'd love to go and get some shots, i need to get my camera back first (I'm looking at you Ben )
Your coming on Ben's run, right Dale?
I'll provide everyone with an update on the MX5 when i have a chance.

Oh snap =P
I think the RRP for the NEX5 is actually more than what I paid for Alfredo before I got him running properly and fixed a few things. LOL

Re: Cheyne's NA6 Photo Diary Mk2
It's coming time to brush the dust off this thread
The MX5 has been playing captain daily for the last few months, so nothing fun has really happened. Everything has remained pretty steady and nothing much has changed.
I am in the process of changing a few things, so when they are all done, a major update will come.
Some Key Words of things that will be fitted within the next month. They are all ordered, just waiting for delivery or fitting.

Have you sorted out the noise in the back end?
Mine had the usual problem with the brake pad retaining clips and sounded a lot like you describe.

Re: Cheyne's NA6 Photo Diary Mk2
Ah, Yes!
Thanks for the reminder.
I have definitely found the source of the noise thanks to a lot of help and suggestions from people throughout the MX5 community.
It turned out to be the inner ball joints of the White Line sway bar end links/ rose joints wearing out. They clunk like mad now.
I honestly did not do my research when buying these, i looked for the best thing out there, not considering my use for them. I have since ordered something more practical and will be fitting them shortly. I'll write it up in more detail very soon.
