Cost of CAMs

We seem to have wildly varying claims regarding the cost of CAMs.

I've just had Dean Tighe from Tighe Cams give me a quote...

We can offer new or build up and grind your cams .
New cams are $1250.00, build up and grind are $720.00

Best price I've seen on-line from the USA was near $850 for a set (didn't say it was new or build up/regrind).

Any other true quotes you can share (not just opinions)....

Camtech regrind $410 plus $110 if it required lash caps.
For a B6 engine.
Got the quote today.

Also, Kelford new cams delivered from NZ for under $1000.

My last regrind from camtech (syndey) was 220 including postage both ways from newcastle.

Im super happy with the performance, its in a competition only car. It lives its life a quarter mile at a time (actually, a dirt stage at a time) and after many more rpm than the engine/cam was ever designed to sustain its still great and showing no wear. Its 3 seasons old.

Dann, how can you be half what we've been quoted? Are you only doing the exhaust camshaft or something special?

Also got a quote from Camtech Cams...

For this application we can only offer to regrind your camshafts as we do not carry billets for this application. We would give you the biggest possible regrind for what you want.
The regrind cost $418.00 inc gst
And you will require lash caps $ 104.50 inc Gst
Freight $22.00

Sorry for being such a newbie, but why the lash caps? Do all regrinds need them?

Maruha F-cams for NA8 , HLA friendly, new and not regrinds. new tappets not required, $840 delivered to my door.

Watch the welded cams closely, if that is what you buy. They are known to fail (not all, the failure rate is unpredictable), and they will take the buckets with them (SUB) if you don't catch them quickly. At that point the economies of buying the cheaper welded cams, rather than the billets, turn into serious cost and inconvenience.

I paid $950 for Tighe's in Sept 2007 so that is a fairly steep rise given lots of other bits seem to be about the same or even cheaper these days.At the time they were cheaper than importing, but i guess the $ was nowhere near where it is now.

And my camtech cost.. It was for a certain stroked pulsar... Single cam engine
