Coil Pack Connectors

Wondering if anyone has a photo of an NB8A wiring harness that shows a close up of the connectors that the coil packs plug into?
(or if anyone is really clever and knows the part number of the connector..)

The electronic copy of the 1999 NB manual (18MB) just shows the connector and doesn't mention any part numbers

the sure way to get the right part nbr is to go into Mazda spare parts and ask them and maybe get a price and availibility at the same time. Any parts list from other sources is always going to be suspect. These housings are designed for specific connectors and terminals and Mazda reference nbrs can easily be different to the component suppliers nbrs.

Mazda spares had less of an idea than I did...
And I don't really want to buy a whole engine harness just to get the connectors on the end, especially when I only need a part number to know what connectors will fit into them..

Hmm, these guides are good. I've downloaded them for future reference.
Unfortunately they don't list the breakdown of the harness, just a ref to the harness itself.

I'm actually trying to get the connector number on the end that mates to the coil pack, so I can source the matching connector and have a plug and play setup, without having to hack up my original loom.. (Especially as my wiring skills aren't flash, and I can get some of the engineers at work to knock up a patch harness that plugs straight in, IF I can find the right connector part numbers..)

If you have engineers at work and aware of mating parts they or Purchasing should be able to check the usual suppliers of housings and connectors ( Yazaki Sumitomo Molex etc )and maybe a contact for getting a sample. Mazda it would appear do not service the sub component and that is why they cannot tell you .Cable assy makers will be able to suggest sources for housings and connectors but these are love jobs or where you have other business. A simpler approach may be a wrecker. Incidentally I doubt the part nbr for the housing is much good unless you know who made it- then catalogs can be checked. Even terminals are applied on automatic machines and sold on reels so no one will sell one offs.

Had a look my parts catalog as well as another parts list, but also no luck.

Can advise you that on the NB8A the two plugs connecting to the coil-pack form part of the fuel-rail wiring harness, but even if it's available separately, it won't be cheap new.

Can also advise that the plugs that connect to the 1993-1995, 1995-1997, & 1998-2000 coil-pack are interchangeable as they all are the same size & can accommodate up to 4 wires. 1993-1995 uses 4 wires, while 1995-1997 & 1998-2000 use 3 wires.

Also noticed that the plug connecting to the CAS on the 1993-1995 at least is the same size up to 4 wire plug. So, if you can't get the 3 wire plug, you could get any of the aforementioned 4 wire plugs & just not use the 4th wire.

Best lead is that I noticed my CoP system connectors are the same size & again up to 4 wires - see here for an example: viewtopic.php?f=77&t=44754

From tbro's thread it appears that the connectors are Toyota part #: Conn 75727:

Cool, Thanks for the info.

My engineer friends have managed to dig up some info on the female connector, (a sumitomo part) however it appears it is listed as 'direct connection' only, which suggests they don't make an equivalent male mating connector..

They are now checking to see if the same connector is available with different polarizers which could be adapted to suit.

Are you trying to make a plug in loom for a Toyota COP setup? If so wouldn't you want the plug on the coil pack instead of the one that is part of the car's loom?

Yes and Yes, but the plug on the coil pack is moulded in, so I was hoping to find out the connector number for the female loom side so I could then try and source a matching male connector to make the patch loom up with.

FWIW, the Splitfire CoP kit used on both the NA8 & NB8A doesn't plug into either of the two connectors that plugged into the coil-pack. On the NA8 it connects to the plug that connects to the plug mounted at the rear of the driver side of the top of the head just below the cam cover. This is a different type of plug: rectangular with positions for 6 pins but with only 4 wires on the NA8 (possibly 6 wires on the NB8A). Probably more than one way to convert to CoP on the NA8 & NB8, but that's how mine is.

that's good to know. I'm not fussed where I connect in. I just didn't want to hack up my standard loom. If I can plug in further down the line then that solves my problem.

Wouldn't happen to have any pics of your setup would you???
