Pulled the carpet yesterday... well most of it. Not ready to pull the whole dash out so had to cut around the part that sits behind the tombstone It was ratty carpet and not worth keeping anyway.
AWD gauge cluster is in but there'll be no good photos of that til more parts arrived to finish that off. Was going to put the A/C panel in today while I had the tombstone out but I couldn't find the right kind of thing to undo the grub screws to get the lever caps off Another day for that one.
Will drive it a few days without carpet to make sure the unpleasant smells have departed the car with it.
This car has totally been worth it over the NA6, I found $3.15 under the seats this time that's more than 100% profit on last time!
Its not quite as loud to drive without carpet as I thought... though now you can clearly hear the wire I attached to the exhaust as a temporary fix to pull it away from the bracing
Apart from just cleaning and the use of Armorall style products to clean all those interior plastic bits.. what else can you do? Is there a paint that would stand up to interior abuse? I'd like to refresh all those bits.

This weekend I pulled out the dash in the NA8 and put in the new 2nd hand carpets and dash, along with swapping the other interior bits I had on the NA6.
The dash needed swapping as it was cracked and crappy, and I'd already removed the carpet due to musty smells.
Saturday was pulling it all out, 1red5 and Phoe came over with beer and cheezles and helped dismantle it all, very appreciative of their help!
All out:
The car has all this extra wiring for a security system that doesn't work, and made the loom look like a real mess.
I decided to swap over from the original dash all of the insides and just used the shell from the new dash, so spent the evening swapping the metal support stuff and aircon 'tubes' and all that, and put the AWD aircon panel together ready to go in.
Also grabbed all the bits from NA6 to go in, handbrake and gearshift parts and sill plates, but didn't get as far as the stereo as that will need more wiring work in the NA8. Couldn't swap the steering wheel yet as some of the bolts in the NA8 have stripped hex fittings so need to find a new set of screws (where do ya get those??)
Sunday started putting in the carpet. The heater core is attached to the trans tunnel and couldn't be lifted very far to slide the carpet over the stud for securing the heater core, so I just cut a slot up the carpet to make it easier to fit.
Finally managed to unscrew the damn earth strap and soldered a new end to it, and removed all the security system wiring and resoldered and covered up those wires. Wiring loom looks far less of a nightmare again.
With Josh's help put back in the dash and hooked up the wiring.
And finished off the other carpets.
While everything was out I also tightened the screws and nuts on the parcel shelf to prevent buzzings.
Now it all looks very much better, no smells and far less buzzing and creaking since all bolts and screws have been tightened up again.
Still have to try and prise out the eyeball vents so I can put new friction material in there.
The RS Refine gauge rings are on their way (woohoo!) so later this week I can finish putting together the gauge cluster and will post some pics of the interior as it stands.
Next will be covering the crash pads and then its onto the doors.

I love the look of the rs refine rings.
Any tip on how I would obtain some?
Tried to check out their site but my google translator has it's period abd isn't much help.
Is there any other way?

I purchased the RS Refine rings as part of a group buy on clubroadster.net and they were made especially for the group buy, as I'm not sure they are produced in numbers, or are no longer produced to buy at any time unfortunately
I'm going to send a message to the member over there who set this up and ask him about that for you.

RS Refine finery!
Package from Japan arrived today, and the packaging itself was promise of the awesome awaiting inside...
The aluminium gauge rings came with separate polycarbonate lenses, some superglue to attach them and metal polish. Polished the rings up first (photo is slightly blurry!):
I used silicon instead of superglue to put them together and attach to the cluster... this way if they need to be dismantled in the future it'll be easier to clean off the bonding material.
I've put it all together in the car but that's all I can show ya for now as it was dark by the time I finished! Photos of it all tomorrow.

Finished fritzing with the gauges.
Swapped the gauge faces over to the original NA8 cluster and sorted out making the demister light work as well. Still have to put the eyeball vents back together and am halfway through making doorcards.

Also, great shot of behind the dash there too.
It really is liveable without carpet isn't it? I thought it would be punishing when I took out mine, but you hardly notice any noise.

Surprisingly it's much noisier with a doorcard off than with the carpet removed. Also, the windscreen motors are roolly loud
