Flyin Miata Aus distributor????
So I have decided to get rid of my exhaust for a Flyin Miata cat back system. Since our dollar is so strong and America is... well, not so great.. Now is the time to buy.
I contacted them over the weekend only to recieve an email about shipping. The exhaust in question was $400AUD but the shipping was around $680 BEFORE tax!
They also stated I'd need to pay an additional fee through customs etc getting it into the country.
I don't know about anyone else but if the costs of shipping alone are more than the value of the product, then the deal seems sour.
So is there an Australian distributor for FM products at all? I had my heart set on getting this product, but not my wallet.

Xforce are probably the only decent Australian made exhaust and their quality is debatable since I'm pretty sure it's all outsourced Chinese crap anyway. Plus it's over priced for a generic brandname too. I'm not saying I'm into brand names etc but I would prefer something that's actually been well engineered with some kind of quality assurance rather than hear say.

Yeah I've been down that road before and got possibly the worst system I've ever seen and heard. Never been more ripped off in my life.
I guess it's more the fact that you never know quite what you're getting with a custom job. With a manufactured unit that you're familiar with, in theory will all sound the same. That way you know EXACTLY what you are buying.
I don't know about you but I'm not deaf. If I had to listen to the car every time I drive it, I don't want something that sounds like a raspy piece of crap.

Re: Flyin Miata Aus distributor????
I said reputable.
These shops have built hundreds of exhausts for twin cam 4 cylinders with an oversquare bore. Like every honda.
It just seems funny your going from a big popular name brand exhaust that drones like a bitch. You werent happy with that element. It only droned due to its silly big tip. Its a company that would know this. But still produces it like that because they know that over the net youll never have a come back.
And you want to go through that again?
Why not get one built at a proper race fabrication shop and get exactly what you want. If its not perfect take it back.
My 2c.

I think it's fair to say china does not have a good reputation for quality

Well the brand owners specify the quality to price ratio. I agree quality is variable, but to broadbrush it...shows lack of knowledge.
Anyway back to what you're looking for. Consider if you import your exhaust, any warranty is not much good unless you have local support. So, even if it is Xforce, you'll get that assurance. I've got an Xforce system through Mania and am very happy with it.
If you want an alternative, I hear SMB also has a pretty good rep.

Based on past experience, he wants a brand name to call his own.

Aren't there 2 highly reputable mx5 exhaust makers that people on this forum always speak highly of?
SMP(?) in NSW and T&C in VIC
Btw. I think MX5Mania is the preferred supplier of FM stuff here in Aus.
