As you know I get so many pms regarding technical things like this. Ive recently recieved a few requests for a writeup on this and the SNC 'issue' so I decided to write it up while I was in there. Take the post and sticky it if you think it will help?

Do you honestly think anyone is going to say "Nah, that's a terrible idea"? Admit it, you're going to do it. You just want a bit of extra justification, and maybe some people to blame if you somehow screw it up. :P

One of our club members had his race car seam welded many moons ago, hard to tell what effect it made as it was caged at the same time.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Do you know what/where he welded?

What was his weapon of choice? Tig, gas mig? Did he use a spot welder on the door opening seams etc?

If I seam welded another car, I'd tig weld the door way seams again but I would try to silicone bronze braze the overlapping seams instead of mig'ing them (this would depend if the seam sealant would allow it) as it would save a lot of corrosion issues down the track.
I would not do it to a road car though, pure race car only.

why wouldnt yu do a road car though?

I figured around the shock towers, down the pinch weld with a spot welder and then do the door surrounds with a spot welder and call it a day?

I wouldn't seam weld a road car cause of the corrosion problems you cause by not being able to get to the back of some places to treat the metal. Oh, that and you make it illegal cause in theory you have changed the way the car crumples in an accident  .
If a particular area "needs" to be reinforced (suspension mounting points etc), then by all means, go for it.

Ill at least spot weld the door seams and the pinch welds because its very easy and normal practice when doing panel work.

Any issues you can see doing that?

Nope, a 20mm long tig weld would be stronger though, but in reality, we're probably splitting hairs.

Quick update. Engine and box back in the car. Diff out tomorrow and Ill start on the suspension arms for the bushes.

TOYOTA COPS UPDATE:

Im waiting on pricing for the actual coil packs because im going to buy 30 odd at a time.

Im also waiting on finalisation on the carbon fibre hardware for fitting them.

Im waiting on confirmation for one last test set, as I have 2 cars testing them at the moment but one has a non cops related issue at the moment, so im looking at another tester.

The ignitors WILL be exchange, as I cannot get well priced ones and you wont need it once youve gone cops.
