I've been in my mates NC and was quite happy with the ride. I believe they come in Tokicos. Hence wanting to upgrade to the illuminas. But don't know if it's worth it for an DD.

This is comparing apples with oranges, there are so many things in the NC that makes it a much more comfortable car.

I don't know anyone in Brisbane who have YSR's for you to have a ride and experience first hand.
If BC's are comparable to YSR's then my vote is go for it, as $800 is not reasonable.... it's a great price! I've ridden and dríven an SE with BC's set to half-way (am I right MINX?) and it was very compliant.

Koni Sport and Eibach springs is always a winning combination, but more effort on your part to gather parts and put them together.

I see it as 3 hours work to gather parts and assemble vs 20 hours work to pay for the difference ! At work mind you, not in front of the pc.

Well, I thought the GB was excellent as well. It's actually $895 for the YSR. Hence considering them.

To have the konis and springs imported, the cost will be about the same. Shox quoted me $200 to deliver.

The main thing is, the ride quality and comfort. I don't want go purchase the YSR if it's going to highly detriment the quality of my DD. Then eventually, having to sell this set up and starting from square 1 in the future again.

There have been some mixed reviews on the YSR though.

8/10 people who get the yellowspeeds do random trackdays, I promise you if you get the yellowspeeds you will have a much rougher daily ride, and you will re-sell them asap. Read more into it, don't rush. Good luck

Yeh, i didn't think it was worth it for my needs and wants.

I'll consider your koni/ kings set up. Will research more into it, and see if I can source it locally.

The AUD is GREAT at the moment, so will need to act on this quickly if I purchase from SHOX.com

As has been discussed in the other YSR thread, when I put the street YSRs in my NC to full soft, it was underdamped, particularly at the back, but it was still better damped than the OEM shocks with 50k km.

Put to 6/4 (front/back) out of 33, they are compliant and comfortable for touring.
Put to 12/8 (front/back) out of 33, they are good for a sporty DD, and even allow me to go further than 30min between pee's :-)

Im trying to explain the issue. Very few believe or understand that going too soft is possible. They tend to think that they can buy coilovers for the 'hektik mods' factor, then run them full soft and not have to put up with the 'hektik stiff' factor.

I've been looking at doing the shocks on my 95 NA8 for about 2 years now, and i've read pretty bloody widely.

Koni Streets are poor. They can't handle higher spring rates and there have been issues with the street package (includes springs) where the springs have sagged.

Koni Sport shocks are great..... if you can find springs for them. Some people say Eibach Pro's are fine, some people say they're rubbish, others say they sag after a while. Can use FM springs with the sports but they're about $300, hence you're paying ~$1k landed for springs and shocks, and reduced travel compared with stock. If you go the FM spring route with sports, you can't use FM's rear mounts either, as they will cause coil bind.

GR2's are a stock replacement. Personally I consider them a waste of time because if you're going to spend $200+ on freight, you might as well get decent shocks. New Bilsteins would be a better investment I think.

Illumina's with FM springs (aka FM 1.0) are a good setup. You get a once off drop from the FM springs and you get a nice range of adjust-ability for rebound & compression on the shocks. Most shocks don't adjust for compression, only rebound (i.e. koni sports). Probably the most DD friendly setup I've found.

The other cost-effective alternative not yet mentioned are the FM V-Maxx, which from American reports are street-able and maybe daily driver friendly, depending on your roads.

I haven't done anything yet because I can't decide between koni sports or FM illuminas. I will probably end up going illumina's, because they just work well with the springs and will be compliant.

haha... YEs, I've been reading and trying to do my research as well. And have nailed it down to either those two set ups as well. koni sports or FM illuminas. I haven't researched much on the koni's yet but may consider the Koni sports and Eibach Pro-kit spring package available on Shox.com. With the AUD$ being soo good at the moment, I'd better quickly make up my mind.

Any koni distributor can insert different valves to suit your application. If they aren't matched from stock then that's a problem with your supplier.

Are you sure they don't adjust rebound? Are you really sure?

My understanding is most single adjustmeent shocks adjust both rebound and compression at the same time, with rebound being adjusted in much smaller steps, and opposite.
