Switching only helps if you have a totally drained tank and then fill up. Running e50 is a guarantee that the car will ping its ring lands off.

I am wondering if the MS is something that could be of benefit to a relatively stock car (i.e apart from CAI and exhaust mods) that has the NB8B VVT engine?

So how does the MS3 help in that scenario? Also, I was anticipating running to empty and then refilling, so it would be more like e10 and then only "up to" !

Depends on the cai and exhaust mods, but it's a good platform to continue mods that require a tuned ecu.
Also, there is some debate over what you need to manage the VVT, so probably not PNP.

where as the ms2 can tabke switch, the ms3 will accept a flex sensor, allowing you to tune on petrol, then e85 then the flex sensor measures ethanol content and lets say its E42.5 it will interpret exactly half of each map into one tune so the car runs perfect with zero input from the driver.

I gained heaps of fuel economy going aftermarket, I also got the ability to tune my afr curves back straight after exhaust/intake, the ability to gain 20rwhp with a set of 400 dollar cams and an arvo off tuning. Jump to E85 in an arvo for 20 percent more torque and power..
I think its the first mod one should do to the engine.
You dont put coilovers on without first buying the spanner to adjust them.

There is economy to be had, but if he's not putting in cams, or a turbo, or a supercharger, or running E85. I'd just leave it stock.

I think the reason every oldschool (read- carby) sports car has a cam and compression and portwork is because any mechanic could tune it in an hour.
The main reason cited for not doing cams and headwork and all the proper fun stuff is that people think an ecu is a big super pricey jump. But if you spend a measley 500 (how much is manias cai :rolls:) on a megasquirt to begin with people wouldnt have that issue. Buy a pair of regrinds from camtech for 450 pay the mechanic 200 to fit them (or just do it yourself, youll need, a 14mm a 12mm a 10mm, 2 zipties, torqe wrench-borrow one- thats IT ) and go tune. Thats the cheapest 20-30rwhp youll ever get.

MS2 accepts a flex sensor.
Not sure about the half of each map comment.... Would need to know which feature in MS3 does this?

They backported a lot of the MS3 features to the MS2 so you will find a lot of similarities.

I take your point Dann but for my car VVT obviates the requirement for cam change. Seems to work for Honda.
I am trying to maximise the benefits that are already inherent in the design.

he he. I think youve missed something.
VVT and vtech are NOOOOOOT the same thing. Your car has weak girly little cams just like a non VVT engine, a honda has girly cams and then swaps to big grumpy ones at high revs. Yours does not.
You want power? You need cams.
