Kris's MY08 NC

Postby kris » Wed Aug 18, 2010 9:41 pm

Hi,

I am the proud new owner of a 2008 NC MX5. I am the second owner of the MX5 and have now had the car for a few months.
The previous owner kept the car in impeccable condition with full and additional service history with Eurocars Mazda
and frequent detailing with 5 Star. The car is brilliant- a pure joy to drive! The car is currently stock (aside form all the extras from the dealership) 6sp Manual, PRHT and of course 4 cup holders.
I plan on eventually making some modifications, like the other superb NCs here i've been drooling over, but perhaps once the warranty runs out! I intend on maintaining this car as best as possible and also taking her to the track- something which i have never done before.
I have so far attended one MX5 event- the previous FnC run (which turned out the be Nandos!) and had a great time meething other fellow enthusiasts! I look forward to attending many more events in the future and taking part in the forums.

Still learning to attach photos etc- two photos of the car at night attached and a very recent milestone.

Cheers,
Kris

Welcome to the forum and the obsession - nice choice of car (MX5)!!

There's a bunch of helpful people on this forum, so ask anything, and there'll be an answer for you. Everyone helped me when I was looking to buy and I've found this forum to be one of the best, if not the best on the interwebs!

EASTERN CREEK

Yesterday i took my Mx5 to the track for the first time and i'm still grinning ear to ear! What a great day, i'm hooked, i can't wait to go back! I did 5 sessions, about 100 km or roughly 40 laps of track time in dry, wet, belting rain wet and drying conditions. I loved every moment and the car was superb. Also had the chance to go around the track a number of times with the instructors on the day- these guys are brilliant and have enormous driving experience, i feel as though i have had (and did have) world class tuition, my driving and understanding of my car has improved ten fold for which i believe i owe greatly to the instructors.

This might sound silly, but two of the highlights of the day was when two different instructors took me around the track in my car. Now that was an experience, i had no idea my car (in the right hands) was capable of such performance! Unbelievable! Now if only i can put together 2-3 perfect turns.... and then eventually a complete circuit!

I also meet some great guys on the day and got some really great pointers and advice, not to mention some drool worthy cars! The atomsphere was really friendly and respectful and everyone who didn't blow an engine in an evo had a great day!

No pic of me on the actual track, so i've posted a pic of my car from another day i had handy and one from the pit lane of some of the cars.

Welcome to the obsession

As others have said before, the biggest improvements at the track initially come from the drive.

Welcome!!! If you liked the driver training trackday at Eastern Creek, you should really try to do the MX-5 Club trackdays at Wakefield Park in Goulburn. The next one is on this Sunday. Why not come down for a visit and see how it all works?

Hi Kris,
Great choice in cars, the tail pipe will clean with some polish and elbow grease.

Hey guys,

Over the christmas break i had my car serviced with Dave at MX5 Mania. Short story- no dramas and very happy with the service.

Slightly longer story-
Turned up at Mania and meet another mx5 owner with a very sweet SE and had a good chat with him, soon after the Mania guys turned up who were all top blokes. I had booked the curtesy green MX5 and was actually looking forward to getting a feel for the earlier generation while my car was being serviced. However the guy with the SE asked if he could have the car, the mania guys politely declined saying i had already booked it. No trouble though, i let him take the car as the guys said i could hang around and learn a few things by watching how the car is serviced. This was great, i spent ages chatting with Dave and watching fluid changes etc while he pointed out bits and pieces here and imparted a small fraction, as only time allowed, of his mx5 knowledge to me!

I'm pretty keen on the Yellow suspension kit Mania has, which is being discussed in another thread, so i will be looking into that in the near future.

After a good service i went on a road trip from sydney up to the goldie and back. About 1900k and the car was just a dream the entire way, never faulted once through all different weather, traffic and road conditions.

Picture below was taken at lennox head on the way up to GC.

Mods time has arrived :)
Ohlins courtesy GWR.
Also on the way over the pacific with Fed Ex are my new street tyres: 215/45/17 Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

Now I need to find some time to get some installing done. I’m thinking of trying to do the work myself, so I’ll take a look at the instructions, if anyone knows what they are doing and would like to help me out and teach me a few car things along the way please let me know. Otherwise I will look at getting the installation of the suspension, tyres and get my car serviced at the same time.

Also just like to thank this forum once again for being an invaluable resource for mx5 fanatics.

More photos to come as things progress.

Mate, What are you doing say midday tomorrow?

I'm working on my mx5 with a few others, one of us is getting his new coilovers installed. You can attend and watch how, etc.. and if I have time in the next month i'm willing to help put them in for you. (You will need an alignment once they bed in)

Sailor- They are just amazing, they look too nice for a car!

HJT- Thanks mate for the kind offer, but i didn't read it until now! Would have been great to come along and see a coilover install rather than watching them on youtube! I think i will give the install a shot myself, just need to sort out what tools i need. I'll PM you if you like to sort out when would be a good time.

Cheers,
kris

Michelin Pilot Super Sport

Postby kris » Thu Aug 04, 2011 6:24 pm

After a brief stop over in Honolulu, my Michelin Pilot Super Sport 215.45.17, have arrived curtsey of Rudy at the Tirerack.

These tyres look amazing, and really highlight just how worn down my existing tyres are. The original Potenzas have seen 55k of mostly daily driving and about two track days.

Absolutely trouble free, smooth and professional service from the tirerack, so like GWR, I highly recommend them. Particularly if you are after something that is performance based and in my case not available in Australia, or which the Michelin suppliers won't import for you.

Now just need to get both suspension and tyres installed, most likely after the iceberg run!
