Aftermarket seats

In searching through the forum, it seems replacing the seats is a common question, with some threads only giving part answers. Since I'm looking at taking an axe to the NB8A seat what have other people used/experienced?

Seat brand/name:
approx Costs:
ADR Approved: Yes/No/dont know
Ease to install - 1 being a straight swap no modification at all, 10 being an absolute nightmare.
-Driver side:
-Passanger side:
Comfort: - 1 being 2+ hours of driving with no comfort/back issues, 10 being kills your back after 20 mins
Your height:
Seat height changes: do you sit higher/lower?
Other comments: hard to get in/out of

you could reverse the question and ask what is your criteria- ie why do you want to replace the seats- there must be some perceived deficiency?

Car model: NA6
Seat brand/name: Sparco, oldschool, fibreglass race seat, like a go kart seat with leather glued to it
approx Costs: free, got it in very old condition, with the leather in very poor condition
ADR Approved: Lol
Ease to install - I made completely new rails in about an hour.
-Driver side: Sparco
-Passanger side: stock/none
Comfort: Very good, but seriously tight. Great for me
Your height: 6'1
Seat height changes: Bum about 10mm from the floor
Other comments: hard to get in, its a race seat, it has dead vertical hip and rib holding sections

Ease to install - 2 . Drill 2 new holes in the standard seat rails and bolt in
-Driver side: Sparco
-Passanger side: stock/none
Comfort: Very good, but a little tight. Great for me
Your height: 5'11
Seat height changes: about 45mm lower
Other comments: not the easiset to get into, but one in it is pretty comfortable.

Ease to install - 2 . Drill 2 new holes (rear holes) in the standard seat rails and bolt in
-Driver side: Sparco
-Passanger side: stock
Comfort: Good holding and allows 6 point harness and standard belt, but base very hard on the b*m. I have fitted a block of high density foam for street use for a bit more padding.
Your height: 6'00
Seat height changes: about 45mm lower without foam insert
Other comments: provides head protection from B-D roll bar as NA stock seat allows head to touch bar padding - more safer. Restricts vision a little, but acceptable.

Ease to install - Drill 2 new holes (rear holes) in the standard seat rails and bolt in fits perfect nothing rubs on the doors stock seat belt clips in easy.
-Driver side: Sparco
-Passanger side: Delete for added liteness.
Comfort: No padding but the prince of liteness likes it. Painful to get into and out of, Painful to sit in for long periods of time. Hip hugging and very suportive. Fat people will have no chance, highly recomend as a passenger seat with a no fat girls sicker as a weight saving precaution.
Your height: 175 cm Tall
Seat height changes: Not adjustable
Other comments: Its like half the weight of stock seat and fits a 5 point TAKATA harness.

approx Costs: $1200

Ease to install
-Driver side: 1
-Passanger side: 1
(I'm using Mazdaspeed seat brackets specifically for NA/NB's, literally a straight swap with no fitment issues at all)
Comfort: 1
(I used to get fatigued doing the drive from Sydney to Wakefield park in the stock NB8A seats after maybe an hour. In the Mazdaspeeds, I got there the whole way with no issues)
Your height: 160cm or so? Not tall.
Seat height changes: Feels about the same as the factory NB8A seats
Other comments: One of the best mods I did to the car. Fitment is perfect, comfort is perfect, holds me in a lot more than the factory NB8A seats whilst on the track. It ticks all the boxes for my requirements, which is comfort, easy fitment, and keeps me held in enough on the track without being too over sporty.

I have these in my NC. Fit perfect on the factory runners. Lowered 1", too.

These can be fitted in a NB8A.

Autotechnica brand. Made in China stuff, but ADR approved so much reassurance.

Comfort : 2 Comfortable but I’d put the factory seat in for a longer trip
Your height: 6’1”
Seat height changes: Put it in to sit lower and had to mod the side rails, maybe 20mm lower
Other comments: Harder to get in/out of but shoulder wings don’t let you move. 2 Plus is both longer in the body and wider

approx Costs: Cheap enough to buy

Ease to install - 6. Needed custom made rails.
-Driver side: Bride Zeta
-Passanger side: Stock
Comfort: - 8/10. I find it to be very huggie. Hugs wheel during corners, dríven it to Winton no problems. 3 hours drive. Better if more cushion
Your height: 168 cm ish
Seat height changes: Sit lower than stock. 12mm off the floor
Other comments: 7/10 need to be a gymnast because i sit a bit close to the steering wheel, a nardi deep corn doesnt help either.

When you say Fit perfect do you mean they just bolt straight in, or do the factory runners need redrilling.

This place is close to finishing their seats designed specifically for the MX5: http://www.arizenracingsports.com/

I have been in touch with them and they are designed to go in either side of the car so no worries regarding LHD and RHD compatibility.

They come with rails and mounts. The ones for the NB will have a lug welded on to mount / rail to mount the stock seat belt receiver on.

They are about a month off releasing the final design and are willing to ship international.

Ease to install: Didn't actually do it myself. Also now have a NA seat belt stork. Cost of install was hardly anything.
Comfort: Fantastic. The stock seat hurt my back after about an hour and I just completed 1700kms over two days fine in the Sparco.
Your height: 5'10 (Weight 65kg). I'm going to re-bolster the seat as I'm not wide enough for it to be snug
