In summer it's good straight away.

Castrol MT90.

Yeah mine is around the same, once i'm out of my street it's good to go... That said, I wouldn't mind it being a lot smoother so perhaps I should give Redline or similar a go. At the moment my wife's Getz is a better drive when it's cold.

i've been wanting to switch to either redline or royal purple oil... redline seems to have a good rep on here.
i'm running castrol syntrax which seems to have turned to jelly this winter.

aye viper, give me a shout if you are keen on getting both cars in the air for a dual gear oil change. should be a hair under $50 each if we split a 4qt bottle, which should be enough.

just put in the Nulon 75-90 fully synthetic stuff few months ago so prolly keep till next winter atleast. Also heard mix reviews about different oil "fixing" boxes and others not noticing anything..........

Anyways if you want a hand changing your fluid just say when.

Also in regards to the "click" reported by others just slow it down till its all hot and should be right.

But as my mechanic says "mate if you got cancer doesnt matter how f****n healthy you eat your still f*****d" LOL

I just think my car had a rough life before i got her is all...........

cheers
Can you remember your first drive?

I'll take that hand! It's a bit hard doing these things when you live in an apartment.
Who am I kidding? I'll probably be too lazy and just pay someone to do it lol.

Erskineville. What if I told you I could get 6 quarts for less than the price if 4? That would sort out three gearboxes!

What would you guys do if your car had no synchros?

I tired Redline in my 6sp, and it did'nt make nay difference that I could tell.

I just make sure I match the revs when changing gear and the stick goes in like a hot knife through butter every time.

When the box is cold, when you change from 1st to 2nd, pull the stick out of first and hesitate just a fraction before you push it into 2nd.
If the timing is right, it will go in very smoothly.
If you're too fast or too slow, then you can expect it to be a little stiff when the oil is cold.

The oil needs to be at the proper temperature before everything in the box works properly, as the gears and the synchros need that bit of heat to expand into their proper dimensions. Same goes for your diff too.

After owning a Morris Minor as a first car, moving onto a VW Beetle, I'm fine with no syncros ;)

My issue is slightly different from this, and I'm prettysure the oil was never changed before I got it. If I'm goingto replace it, might as well do it right :)

I have used normal Castrol gearbox oil replaced by Castrol SYNTEC replaced by Redline Shockproof.
IMO each was a progressive improvement.

Castrol Gearbox Oil
On the track it was easy to beat the syncro's on downshift.
Motorkhana it was occasional difficult to select reverse.
Changing from 1st to 2nd when cold was a little tedious.

The Castrol SYNTEC
Appeared to fix the Motorkhana and cold shift issues however I was still having issues with the syncro's when downshift on the track.

Redline shockproof appears to have minimised all the previous issues.

Not saying the box can't be used with basic oil however changing the oil did work for me.
