Gauge Panel for NB

Postby Apu » Tue Jul 26, 2011 7:15 pm

I'm interested in getting one of these guage panels, but apparently, none for NB :(

Any suggestions for alternatives? I want to replace my 2 DIN stock stereo for a single DIN and stick a couple of gauges in - oil and water temp, and oil pressure.

Do you need them aimed up at you?

Like this?

They have them in different finishes as well. This allows you to have a one din head unit in two din space.

Thanks guys!

Dann - ideally aimed at me, but not fussed if not.

Rhythmstick and Locutus - not sure if that panel will also allow mounting of a single DIN head unit? And how they will fit...

Question is, would that panel from Miata Roadster also fit an NA?

Probably would fit.

Id seriously suggest a piece of carbon fibre with some anodised button head allen key hardware, looks tough yet jdm bling.

Yes i mean homemade, the best sort of mod :D

It'll fit. The NB head unit just uses two, one din mounts. The one from roadster looks like it screws in, so I doubt it'll fit. Especially since they say it's only for the NA.

Locutus' one is directional and cheaper, so I'd go with that. However, Danns idea sounds haaawt if you have the hands for it.

I found one like Locutus' on broomfish.co.nz and it's NZ$11.50!

Would have loved the complete unit but this is cheap. Might get the gauges as well.

Dann's suggestion is great but I have enough on my hands at the moment!

I might point out that any guages below the top of the dash are useless at the track.

What are you putting there?

Oil and water temp and oil pressure is what I'm thinking at the moment. That's stuff I can look at while chugging down the straight.

Oil pressure and temp is something you really need idiot lights for, just ask that red s2k driver 2 clubdays ago. He was on a corner.

I think a pillar pod is much better for usefullness on track. MUCH. Even if it does look jdm (in the just douchbags masturbating type of way..)

I get that, but while I want to keep an eye on things, i'm not prepared to go to the A pillar mounts. Plus I doubt I'll push the car that hard...just want to keep an eye on things - it's not like temps will just jump up. Oil pressure is prob the only thing that will change suddenly...then of course, sh*t happens!

Temps are low on straights. So it wont help, and I bet the s2k bloke wishes he has an idiot light, if hed have backed off he might still have an engine. And it only takes one full throttle run to redline.

Im simply saying that din mount guages are fairly well completely useless.

yea it fits - i've got the same one installed in my car right now, with a single DIN headunit sitting underneath.

i would have made my own, except i don't have a holesaw of the right size, so buying one was a cheaper option.

and yeah it's far from ideal placement for gauges. the only time i look at my gauges on the track is when i am on the straight, and there are no other cars around me.

Dann - I take it's not too difficult to wire up a light to the gauges? What's the setup?
