Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
thanks for the advice.
Ive been able to over heat these na6 brakes on the street, and this cooling setup cost 30 dollars and believe it or not all up weighs the same as the stock steel backing plate alone.
Its finished now, it looks awesome and well, it makes a good desktop background
Ok...justification of effort aside The pads im most interested in are hawk blue and the xp12s. Ive got a quote for both from miataroadster and the price for both isnt too bad.
I assume youve tested many pads, why the Hawk (blues???) in particular? Id be happy to run the same pads as you as our cars probably weigh the same and your N/A setup is probably similar horsepower to mine, give or take a bit.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Would be a good idea to at least upgrade the front brakes to NA8...
Over the years I have tried many different brake pad brands and compounds, the EBC were the worst and the Hawk Blues have been by far the best, have all been light cars.
Some of the racers with the big power MX5s have been using the HT-10 Hawk pads.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Ok blues it is I spose. Whats your source/price if you dont mind
We all know I have a habit of opening my mouth and blurting things out, and I said I wanted to see what could be done on stock hardware, so I suppose we will find out. I know the autocross blokes in the states run the 1.6 brakes with no worries, so I figure its mostly a case of heat management with them.
We will find out...

Finished. I think it looks ghetto tough
I think the airdam flaps are uneven in the photos but they are made to be able to be bent so that I can adjust how much air the brake get and how much the radiator gets.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
As promised, tomorrow the engine gearbox and diff come out to redo the seals. Getting an extra flange on the exhaust tomorrow as the current exhaust is only 2 piece, from the headflange to the muffler tip...
Im doing both main seals, the front gearbox seal the cam seals and the diff seals. Got them through work at trade so I figured while I have the engine box and diff on the garage floor and the timing belt off it, go nuts.
Spikes also needs his front main done and im happy to do it and teach him how if he calls me back and brings over the beers
Hint...Hint....
Photos as usual.

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Last night 'spikes' and 'liam####'(cant remember the numbers in his username) along with 'PaulF' were around. We replaced the cam seals and front main on spikes car. While we were at it I made him a half decent working but homemade looking exhaust heatshield to help his exposed pod setup. Along with removing his cars factory intake resonance chamber, which from now on will be reffered to as a 'De-Hektifier', because it makes the intake roar far less hektik.
TOday with the help of PaulF Ive removed my cars engine and 6 speed, along with draining all fluids and removing a diff seal that was pretty leaky.
Plan is....
Cam seals
Front main
Rear main
CAS 'O' ring
Cam cover gasket
Diff seal
Flush and new gearbox fluid. Its only 15k old but cops an absolute flogging.
New diff fluid
Coolant reroute
And check my lifter clearances, and clearance if needed.
Ive also bought some penrite sin DOT 5.1 that claims a minimum boiling point of 305c guaranteed. Anyone had track experience with this?

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
So......
Update time.
A mate is coming over tomorrow (paul your invited if your keen) to give me a hand doing my seals and ripping out the dash.
The dash is coming out along with the console to pull out those last few bits of unneeded weight.
I also just fitted my fixed back fibreglass sparco. God it needs a retrim, but who cares it weighs like 4 kilos
Id been putting off fabing up the rails for ages, but they are done now.
Its mounted to the stock holes in the floor. and you ALMOST sit on the floor.
You can no longer see the bonnet, and im 6'1.
Woopee, Photos to follow.

nice mate, I see you still have the charcoal canister and some useless wires in your engine bay, any plans to remove and tidy it up while your engine is out?

Re: NitroDann's Long Awaited Garage Thread
Would you believe that will always stay?
If your a cop looking in my engine bay as it stands, it just doesnt look that modified, but if I do a tuck it sure will.
There arent too many reasons to book me just at a glance in there, but removing that gear will. Its 'untidy' enough to look stock, if you know what I mean.
Doesnt mean I like it. But ive never been pulled up for anything on the car since I bought it, despite the mod list. Not a single defect. A week after id bought it i got pulled up for exposed pod and ride height. It was almost stock then. Never since, and ive had MANY roadside 'random' underbonnet inspections.
