Mine weighed 745kg without the gearbox, engine internals, clutch and fluids....

Yep i did the 2nd round of the victorian super sprints yesterday. Managed to win my class (standard 0-1600cc) by 5 seconds and put a lot of other cars to shame in the higher classes. Not bad for an old near standard na6, it even has working a/c. Here is a video of me chasing a sports sedan full on race car in radical class. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvPth1OK_zc

I have started on the door moulds for the c.f car too and should have them finished by the end of the week.

And for anyone interested the mx5 is definately faster with the hardtop off around winton.

And the garage is nearly all lined and insulated.

Interesting.
So the extra 20kg saving outweighed the drag disadvantage.
That would suggest even more reason to take off the hardtop on the short circuit...

Unless you have a c.f hardtop, it is pointless running it. The extra weight is just too much to make up by any aero advantage. I will be running with the softtop until i make a c.f hardtop for it. 20 odd extra kg's is a fair amount, especially being up high.

Why not just remove the soft top and run a hardtop?

Well you can, and that's what i did. Still slower with the hardtop. And depending on the class your in, you have to keep the softtop even if you have a hardtop.

May I ask what size wheels and tyres you are running?
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

They do look large in that pic, but they are only 15". However they are 9" wide. The tyres are the kuhmo 225's r specs, and they are 4mm wider than the toyo 205's. Not 20mm like the tyre size suggests. The rims sit on the ground when they are on there side - the tyre is skinnier than the rim.

Well i finally got something done on the c.f car. The inner door mould is done, and tmrow i should have the outer door mould done. Then onto the drivers door.
I also made a c.f front spoiler for my yellow car while i was waiting for the resin to cure. Probably the worlds first of it's type. Pic is straight out of the mould, so needs cleaning and trimming.

I trimmed the front spoiler, it looks o.k, but the next one will be better.
