NC1 battery died as I test drove the car for 5 mi-10min

Postby theaussieinhk » Sun Jul 10, 2011 10:26 am

I test drove a manual NC1 in car park, doing laps a few laps in 1st and 2nd gear when the battery suddenly died and the whole car stopped. He asked me to push the car so he can try to restart the car (?) which didn't work. He eventually called nrma to fit in a new battery.

Is this a battery problem, or a problem with the car itself?

If YOU stopped it, then it wouldnt start, probably battery, if it stopped on its own, then wouldnt start, probably alternator.

Modern cars ( like the NC) seem to need a fully working battery to keep going... I'm sure an autoelec could explain why, but I've had other cars where car stops and only fault was a fully collapsed battery... Eg under 7 volts etc

If the NRMA fitted the replacement battery, they should also have carried out a charging system test and confirmed that it was functioning correctly.

I replaced mine at around the 5 1/4 year mark, so as an educated guess the battery died the old age.

Mine did go quickly (God rest its soul) and no amount of overnight charging helped. Remember 5 years is reasonably good for a battery, though OEM batteries seem to last longer than their replacements.

I might add that nrma batteries are just about the worst there are also.
