Re: possible problem with my new NC2
thank you all for your reply, very appreciated
just in response to your question cobby, I used to drive an 05 corolla sportivo, and my partner used to drive a mirage auto.
it could very well be a placebo effect which is probably accentuated by the induction sound enhancer or whatever it's called. but I will be asking Mazda to reset the ecu to see if it did in fact learn it, and more so for peace of mind. or maybe go and test drive their car or something.
thanks again

Another insightful post.
Everyone has a right to an opinion - how it's received will always be in the delivery, & how that delivery informs receivers about the transmitter.
Congrats & welcome! Many have or had rewarding ownership of the early NA6, myself included. Indeed, in a couple of subtle ways they were better than the NA8.

Doubt we'll ever get agreement by everyone on everything, perhaps even on the benefits of MX5 ownership. But we don't have to agree on everything, & it would be boring if we did. But everyone should have a say if they want to, within the bounds of relevance & accuracy, respecting the right to opinion of others.

Thanks guys! Appreciate all the nice comments Mine has done just over 330, 000 k's and the big end bearings sound pretty foul, I'll be sourcing a long nose na6 motor and just keep it aside until mine dies, and then I'll save a bit more and look into building a boosted na8 motor.

I can see how it would be quite easy to stall the new MX-5 after driving an auto Mirage, the new Mazda gearboxes feel pretty different to any other late model manual cars that I've dríven (not many given my workplace but we still get a couple of newer trade-ins every now and then).
Good idea to get it checked out, they won't be able to totally reset the PCM as such (they can but it will most likely cost you) but they can check for any error codes (CMDTCs - Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes...took me a little while to remember that, haha). The PCM needs to see a problem twice within a certain amount of drive cycles before it logs a permanent error code, otherwise it will be pending. Once the code becomes permanent, it will put up a light in your instrument cluster, usually the engine light (MIL - Malfunction Indicator Lamp).
Just to give you an idea, the diagnostic tool that we use as far as I've seen, can only reset information like engine oil, the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor, and a couple of other things on the diesels. I've never actually had to use the "data reset" command on a petrol engine, and I'm not even sure if it works, I'll ask my trainer trainer tomorrow and I'll get back to you.

Why a long nose b6? Your a mazda tech, you know what the problem is caused by, surely you wouldnt make that mistake yourself right? Youll save like 400 buying a SNC.

Re: possible problem with my new NC2
... And you say yourself that the replacement B6 wouldn't be a long-term solution (going to a boosted BP). That's $400 you can spend on extra go-fast bits.
