need info on clutch swap please

Postby mxfive95 » Thu Jun 16, 2011 5:42 pm

I'm changing over my clutch tonight and I'v done it before on a Datsun and have also researched how to do it on the mx5 :D

I need to know if I can get away with out changing any seals or the thrust bearing? as all the suppliers near me don't stock them (thrust bearing, rear gearbox seal etc) and the "It'll take a few days to get in mate" is not what I like to hear when it needs to be done by sat for DECA on sunday

I will be doing it properly in a few weeks when i'm ready to put a new engine in.

Cheers Craig

if the bearing spins freely and the seal isnt leaking you CAN 'get away with it'.

Doesnt mean replacement isnt suggested, but worst case scenario, you just spend the arvo pulling it and doing it again. Big deal.

Well All went well 8)

As it was just a tempoary clutch change over I was careful not to damage any seals. I had to change the gearbox oil as i lost most of it when the box got stuck half way

Cheers Dann.
