Going back to the door thing, are you allowed to have doors that can only be opened by reaching through the window and opening from the outside? Even if it is allowed I think for my own piece of mind I would have a wire loop on the inside that you can pull on to unlatch the door.

I know what you are doing is awesome but what about a street machine with just CF panels like your one but a bit more restrained. Perhaps some subtle wheel arch flares and moulded in front and rear lips.

I am sure there are people mad enough or rich enough to want to do it. 8) 8)

I would love to just do the easily removable bits in CF....which is quite a lot when you think about it. Front and rear bumpers, rear garnish panel, boot lid, hard top, bonnet, front wings and the doors. Just leave it all the stock shape for ease of moulding and replacement should something get broken.

It can be done, come and see me when you win lotto or save a few grand.

The reason i want to keep it simple and not have cables or rods running thru the doors is so i can foam fill them. That way they will act as a huge crush box.

You want to be carfull when doing the foam, maybe even clamp the moulds back on you dont want to blow them up like a balloon . and make sure no water gets in or your weight saving goes out the window. that foam loves to soak up water.

I am moving house over the next 2 weeks, so i have been busy packing. Everything has to go into storage for a week, so i have to move everything twice :roll: . That includes all the house stuff, the "wrecking yard" of car parts and gear, as well as all the fibreglass moulds, and c.f gear. A lot of stuff to pack and move for 1 person.

I had the rep out and he told me the best way to do the foam core. And it will be fully sealed so no water can get in.

No progress on the car as it is still in storage. But i have moved house and got to work ripping down the old garage.

Garage as we got it 3m x 9m, had a family of rats, no floor or windows, asbestos cladding, and plenty of rubbish.

Poured a new slab, had to barrow it, shovel it, screed it and finish it myself. Fark'n hard work. I did it in two stages to break up the work.

Welded up the new garage frame, and with some help i now have them standing.

Hi Dave. You should be able to get your car into the low 800kgs quite easily. My CAMS log-booked turbo na was stripped, sand blasted, seam welded & is still road reg and <900kgs. Picture on http://www.mx5club.com.au With a full cage you don't need under body braces :)

I worked out the weight to around 820kg's originaly, but since then i have found a few kilo's here and there. So should get it under 800kg's.

How much does yours weigh? The bar work in yours would add close to 100kg's i would think. The entire bodywork on mine will weigh about 19kg's including the doors, roof, etc.. About the same as the oem hardtop.
