NC Rims

Does anyone know the weight of standard NC 17 x 7 rims?

Also what R-comp tyres are recommended (for Autotest), is it best to stay with 205x45 on 7inch or is 215 x 40 OK?

Thanks for that very usefull link.

So they are 17lb, I as told that they are considered "light-weight" but many of the after-market such as Avanti are slightly lighter at around 16.6lb.

17x7 Enkei RPF1's are 14.6lb.

Yes, and they are also $450- +

There's a saying in regards to aftermarket wheels.

Light, Strong, Inexpensive. Choose two.

Just for something to look into , some common lightweight wheels for the MX5s are the Enkei RPF1s, 949 6ULs or Volk TE37s :wink:

The 949 6UL is only available in a 17 x 9
Any dramas fitting these on an NC and what size tyre, keeping in mind, dont want to make things any tougher for the motor to turn them.

Whats the smallest wheel the brakes will fit over? go for the widest version of that that fits and is reasonably light.

A 15 would be great but not knowing NCs i highly doubt brakes would clear.

NCs are not as sensitive to wheel weight as previous models according to most experts.
I bought a set of 17x8 Enkei PF01 at 16.9lb for under A$1600.00 to my door.

Why the PF01 you might ask...because the RPf1 is not a pretty wheel and the extra 1.3lb per wheel is of little consequence when it can be eaten up by a heavier tyre choice.

Not as sensitive because it is much heavier.

Its ratio of sprung to unsprung is only already ok because the body is heavy.

And those 6ULRs for NCs come in 10 inch also.

If your going to AX this car as you claim a set of ( inch 6uls with some 245 rs3s would be awesome.

Or a hillclimb compound tyre.

If these aren't going to be your road wheel, then you should consider what some of us are using on the track.
Mazda RX-7 16 x 8 rims, they weigh less than the stock rim and by fitting a 45 profile R Spec tyre on a 16" rim you have a small rolling circumference that allow better drive out of the corners plus the added advantage of a 1/2" drop in road height.
They aren't the prettiest rim, dam ugly in fact, but they do the job and you can pick 4 rims up for under $300!!!!

I use Kumho V70a tyres on the track in medium compound. I'd suspect that for autocross you'd need softs. In the USA they use Hoosiers.
