KEYED...such bad luck!!!

Postby vvn_ng » Wed Jun 08, 2011 12:13 pm

Hi All,

I just recently got my MX5 (2mths) ended up calling it Blueberry, as its midnight blue in colour.

On the weekend she got vandalised.

The Whole bonnet through to the drivers side and the back has been Keyed....Why me!!

My insurance is too high to make a claim, $2100 excess . (cash/credit poor right now after buying the car)

Does anyone have any suggestions where I could go to try and get the car detailed. See if it can be polished out before I look at re-painting the whole car.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers

V

Need your location before we can give you any suggestions on where to go

Depending on how serious the keying, i.e. pressure applied & sharpness of object used, detailing is probably going to be of limited use. Repainting is about $300 per panel.

No idea where you are, but make friends with people who race MX-5's. Offer them a part exchange with $$ their way. I would assume racers would happily swap a minor-damaged panel (assuming they will paint it anyway) with good panel and pay them the difference in $$.

Sorry to be a bearer of bad tidings, but the rear quarter panel cannot be unbolted.

Is the damage all over the place? Consider placing racing stripes to cover it?

You can look into getting some sort of vynil wrapping.

Sorry to hear this happen to you.

As someone who's experience the same thing a few years ago, I can symphatise.

That is why I am very careful where I leave my car, to the point it's almost anally retentive.

Oops I'm in sydney CBD

I asked some friends and it looks like I would need a paint over!

So I will need some help with regards to where may be a good place to go too!

Such a hassle! Was wanting to save $$ to get started on tracking the car!

Oh well that will be delayed now!

I guessed that. I was referring to your stated disappointment in him - which I expect you are not.

I think is what JBT was referring to. Presumably you meant, he has never disappointed you/never failed to please.

Some people think it's funny to do that to a car.
I had it done to my Mercedes some years ago, and just after I had a new bumper put on the back after some twit ran up the back of me.
It was so shiny and new looking, when I parked it in Marrickville, and some drongo keyed it over 3 panels!

On my 21st birthday, my father had just gotten a new car a couple of weeks before (a special ordered Valiant wagon with the 360cu in V8, power windows etc., and yes, it WAS that long ago) and as a favour to me, my parents went out for the night and left me with my 21st party.
My parents went to their favourite club in Bondi, and when they came out, some bastards had thrown big rocks at it and dented and scratched every single panel, and scratched every piece of glass.
My father was gutted!

Don't feel too bad about the keying, as often a good panel beater can just touch up the scratches, and if done well, you'd hardly notice them.
That's what I had done to my Mercedes, and you'd be hard pressed to see where the scratches were.

So I guess I'll have to take it to a panel shop 1st to SSS if anything can be done without re-spaying the whole car!

Will have to do that soon!

It's just sad how some ppl can do that to someone else property!
I'm not made of $$ to go around and fix these things! Oh well! Such is life!

Thnaks all who have given me advice!

Cheers
