confiem Fuel Delivery-Rebuilt engine NA6
Hey all.
Well finally after a week, got the newly rebuilt B6 into the old Silver car.
Has been over a year in the doing, stripping, machining, then rebuilding on a first attempt.
It almost started first go except i noticed an Injector leaking so quickly shut it down.
I replaced that injector with another used one i had lying around.
Now it will not start. Turns over just fine but doesn't even really sound like it's catching.
Checked for Spark, Seems to be fine.
I have a suspicion that there is no fuel now.
I have removed the plugs, and can not smell or see any signs of fuel.
Have shorted out F/P and GND, and can hear the pump working.
Tried the screwdriver upto the ear method of trying to hear the injectors but could not hear anything? Could just be to noisy?
Without a Fuel pressure gauge is there a way i can confirm i am getting fuel to the injectors and that they are firing?
I will try to grab some AEROSTART tomorrow and see if that fires up, If so would i be right in concluding it is a fuel delivery issue?
Any help would be VERY VERY much appreciated.

It appears to be still in one piece but will replace tomorrow just in case.
I pulled the plugs and cranked it over and can not see any fuel going into the cylinders. Not sure if i would but i assumed there would at least be a strong fuel smell which there is not.

Thanks for the idea.
Is there a way to test it?
I guess i can just grab the one out of my other NA6 and see if it works?
When i short out F/P and GND and turn on the ignition i can hear the pump so i assume the pump is good.
Could it be that the Injectors are not getting the signal to fire??

That's what I was thinking. So you need power to the injectors and ECU, CAS signal to the ECU, signals to the injectors and a good earth for the engine loom.

From reading your posts, it sounds like at least one injector was functioning at first, but possibly ceased after you changed the leaking injector. If so, was there anything you did during the injector replacement process that might have contributed?

Re: confiem Fuel Delivery-Rebuilt engine NA6
I don't think so, but have been trying to consider anything.
It was the 2nd injector from the front, was leaking on the o-ring where it connects to the fuel rail.
I just unbolted the 2 bolts on the rail lifted the injectors out of the manifold, pulled the connector of that injector, pulled the injector out, reconnected the replacement injector and pushed the injector in then bolted the rail back down.
Have checked the big connector at the rear of the rail and seems to be fine.
Hmmmm.. I wonder if the CAS could be the issue. Worked fine before then engine came out, but i guess who knows.
Thanks so far for everyones help. Much appreciated.

If you are working in a garage, you will definitely smell fuel as soon as it leaks from anywhere, in any amount.
Be carefull when starting her up again, because if you can hear the pump priming then fuel is getting pushed through the system.
Once you think you get it sorted, don't turn the engine over straight away, turn the key to "on" and you might get the engine to "sneeze" out whatever fuel might be in there already.

Of course coincidence can't be ruled out, but I tend to consider/ look at cause & effect first, which you've now done.
The other issue could be that sediment in the fuel filter is causing the problem - has the fuel filter been changed recently, particularly given the whole process has taken over a year, or were you running another motor in the NA6 so it wasn't just sitting?

Thanks RED!! Yeah in a garage, well underground parking lot.
The smell is what drew my attention to the leaking injector first up!
Now there is no fuel smell.. Even with the coilpack disconnected and spark plugs out.
I have made sure i have the relay connected under the steering column HAHA!!! thats bit me once before.
Clubman, yeah the car was running with another engine up until last weekend when we pulled it out for this one.
But it is the old filter, was put in about 3 years ago.
Was going to change it soon once this was up and running.

If there is spark, then would i be right in ruling out the CAS??

you can try squirting a very small amount of petrol down the plug holes and cranking it to make sure everything else is working correctly, ie the fuel pump working on crank, the CAS is working and giving you spark etc. If the CAS isnt working correctly you wont get a fuel pulse.
If you have a duty cycle meter on your multimeter you can use it on the fuel injector wire off the computer to see if they are recieving a signal.
