Red NA with black Bonnet?

Postby Mr nanotech » Wed Oct 27, 2010 4:03 pm

Hey I'm wondering if anyone would care to show off any pics of their red NA Mx5 with a blacked out bonnet, or even carbon fiber ones. Since I got the car I've been tossing it up and not sure still. I definitely am getting my hard top and pillars blacked but I'm hesitant about the bonnet as the paint is still in great condition and I don't want to reach the point of no return and regret it. At least with the pillars and hard top, the paint has gone pink and faded so it needs to be sprayed regardless so in a way I can always rationalize it even if I'm not impressed with the results.

If given no choice but to black out the bonnet, my preferrence is to leave the headlight covers in original colour. Just like the photo from Alan (Gobsmax) - posted below. But then again, I'd also prefer the bonnet in the same colour as the entire car.

Buy a used bonnet for ~$100, paint it black with a few spray cans or the "$50 paint job roller method" and see how you like it. Worst case it was a $150 experiment that someone else might buy for $80 if you don't like it!

After all that, you will still have your present good cond bonnet to go back to if you ever decide to.
Pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever.

Thanks for the contributions guys! But I don't think I'll be heading down this road unless I score a cheap carbon fiber one. It was good to see some decent pics for once!

Are these Rota RB? The fitment is waaaaaaay better than i thought. Especially the back. I'd be interested in finding out the offset on these because it looks pretty neat

I reckon the red with a CF bonnet looks pretty good, sorry for thread hijacking but on similar topics, how about a BRG with a CF bonnet?

I doubt you'd notice it since it's a dark colour to begin with. The bonnet on my car used to be BRG before I sprayed it matte black. You could try it but I wouldn't be spraying over a good bonnet for it. I don't know, I personally think the black bonnet thing works with brighter colours and it's the clash between that looks cool because it upsets the natural flow of the car, yet if you have red/white/blue/purple etc it still fits the scheme.

You now need to put a red ring on the outside of the rims, otherwise the black wheels just look dirty.
You could also have a polished lip, but I guess you're trying to stay away from chrome.

Thought about the red ring! I was gonna buy some red electrical tape and put it around the lip. Though I do want some silver lipped wheel. I have my eye on some new wheels though, gold with silver dish (not equips :) )
