Nice re the speakers

. Decent for $35 hey! The rain guard helps them seal to the door better too I think, which changes the sound a little.

UPDATE - 6/07/2011 - 162,200ks

After the long awaited finish to my degree (pending results

) I've given my car a bit of attention!

Things I've done in the last two days:

- Changed seats Brides > Stockers (see earlier posts as to why!) ((Don't worry, it won't be forever!)) I'll get some more pics soon!

Such a difference in daily driving, I no longer have to do gymnastics to get in/out and the seat belt isn't cutting off circulation to important body parts any more :mrgreen:

- Oil + Filter + Spark Plugs

I tried some Gulf Western 10w40 semi synth. First time I've used it, seems good so far. No tappet clicking on start up and holding a good pressure (if you can trust the original gauge!) The oil filter was a b**ch to get off! It took a fair while, with swearing and name calling but it finally moved. This would have been so much easier with a oil filter puller, but I'm poor and the nearest supercheap is far away, so hammers, screwdrivers and rubber gloves were deployed! Fun fun!

- Changed upper and lower gear boots and turrent oil

Easy job, didn't run into any problems, turrent oil was a bit tricky to extract as I didn't have a syringe, but I improvised with a sauce bottle and a little medicine sucker thing to get the last bit out, which the bottle couldn't reach! I just replaced the turrent oil with some cheap 80w90 Nulon gear oil.

- Installed my broadway review mirror

Makes a bit of a difference, not heaps more, effective when the roof is off! It's mainly there because it's been laying around home for too long!

I also tried to change over my wheel nuts for some work ones that I bought a few days ago, but I'm having trouble fitting them up. The socket piece I have is too think and doesn't allow any room to get in their, this could be overcome with a smaller piece, but even the lock nut with the lock-nut piece doesn't fit ><.

I think I need some 17mm ones, not 21mm.

So I guess these will be for sale, as well as my brides, I'll make a F/S thread soon!

That's all for now, next step is to sort the diff whine out. I checked the oil and it's all full and clean so that cancels that out. I might take it to a mechanic and get him to drive it, I'm sure he will be a able to quickly identify the problem. p.s. it's an 1.8 open wheeler, so it might be upgrade time

I need car talks opinion.

What would you get first?

Roll bar or a hard top?

I would get a BD roll bar, as there was previously one in this car, looked and felt great!

or

Original hard top or one of lightyears carbon hard tops?

Rollbar.

If you buy a hardtop you'll want to get a hardtop stand, and then when you've got the stand, the hardtop will never be on the car again....that's my experience anyway.

Hell, I'm still driving with the top down when it's 8 degree C in the morning! My hardtop is nice and warm in the garage though.

If you can live without the hard top for a while longer, get the rollbar. Safety and chassis stiffness.

I don't know if it means anything to you, but I understand that Lightyear's CF hard tops are illegal for street use. You might be perfectly willing to live with that fact though.

Wilch: you're a true roadster fanboy now! I love it haha!

PaulF: I was swaying in the direction of the carbon hardtop due to it's lightness obviously, and the cost of a original one seems to be around the mark of lighyears CF tops. In regards to legalities I was planing on keeping my soft top in their and just having the hard-top for winter / added safety, so if ever a officer of the law decided that the CF top was no good, then I could just take it off and put the soft top on! I can't really imagine the CF top being any more dangerous than the soft top though!

I suppose now the challenge is to find a good BD roll bar for a good price!

BD bar is awesome and obviously I went BD bar first.. then I will get some CF goodness on my car hopefully early next year.

Just a quick update, I've been in the process of installing a tablet into my car to fit in the double din space.. all going along nicely until the tab broke! So that is in the shop at the moment. When I was playing around with the dash I finally decided to do something about the marks that were on the front plastic.

It was originally like this...

A bit of cheap (harsh) cut and polish, and it turned into this!

On another note, I think I've put my finger on the whine I'm hearing, I think it is rear wheel bearings. With the wheels I'm running it's not a bad idea to replace them regardless so I will be tackling that soon enough, any tips or advice where I can buy bearings from at a decent price?

Other than that.. I'm getting some raybrig lights soon, and I'm on the hunt for a roll bar. I've also had my eye on a 'nakame centre console', but am still deciding if I can justify buying it! (convince me!)
