Good muffler shop in Brisbane?

Postby NZMiata » Sun May 29, 2011 9:04 am

Hi everyone. It turns out my "direct fit" Magnaflow catalytic converter is far from being a direct fit. Does anyone know a good muffler shop in Brisbane, preferably on the southside? I need them to shorten the cat a bit and also shake the loose bits of failed cat internals out of the muffler. Also, how much can I expect to pay for this? It sounds like maybe $50 of work to me. Should I see if MX5 Plus can do it on a Saturday?

I was going to try Piperwerx on Johnson Rd (opposite the new industrial estate), but they never got back to me.
MX-5Plus can certainly do it.

How close is the fitment? is it a few mm out or considerably more?

The cat may or may not be a direct fit but most cars of your age have had exhaust mods that mean they are no longer standard.Obviously i dont know if this is the case with yours, but when T&C thought about making a "pack and send " set up they used my NA8A which was standard and had had a complete catback that fitted perfectly on both my car and my mates NA6A and sent it off to the customer and it did not fit, hence they will only do a custom fit as cars of this age are rarely "standard". especially as far as cat. position is concerned.

If yours only needs a bit cut off or added probably about $50-80.

good luck,

Peter.

Give Brian a call of Exhaust Innovations, if Capalaba isn't too far...

Thanks for the suggestions. The cat I have looks to be about two inches too long.

Then they just gave you an off-the-shelf cat, not model specific at all.
Is it at least the type you were after?
Apparently there are a couple different lengths according to model year of NA, but the difference is less than 1cm.

I got my exhaust done by Rob Bliss Exhausts for my NB8A. Worth a call for a quote imo.
