Quick Audio/Stereo wiring question

Postby spikes » Sat May 28, 2011 9:52 pm

When I bought my NA, it came wired with a Pioneer amp and splits to the 6.5" speakers and tweeters. Anyways, I want to delete the amp so I could use it for subwoofer use only.. The headunit runs to the amp via RCA cables, and from the amp runs cables to the splits and then to the tweeters and door speakers.

When I disconnect the door speakers from the amp and plug in the stock wiring harness (green and red/green cables) lying inside the door, the speakers don't work.

Anybody know as why it'd be doing this? I've been researching wiring diagrams and looked at my harness between the Sony Xplod headunit and the stock wiring plugs and its just a jumble of cables that doesn't look very professionally made, basically a botch job is what I'm trying to say..

I've got a spare Sony plug and I was thinking of redoing the harness but before spending a few hours trying to figure out which cables run where, I thought somebody might post on the forums of my situation and if something else could be done?

So currently you have your fronts running off the amp, yes?

If this is the case then you headunit would be connected to your amp through the RCA leads, and the amp would then have speaker wiring between it and your fronts. By connecting the stock wiring harness you've probably ended up with a connection between your headunit and some cut wires somewhere between it and the speakers.

Easiest way to move on from here would be to remove your speakers to see what kind of wire they're connected with and compare it with what's coming out of your amp. If it looks the same at both ends they've probably rewired the whole length of the connection and there should still be the stock wires (connected to the stock harness) floating around inside the door. If they're different it could have been cut at any point along the way. Follow the wires from the amp and see where they go.

thanks jeo, exactly what I'm thinking right now.

the stock cables are there, the stock wiring harness leading up to the unit is all fine, its just the harness from the stock plugs to the headunit has been butchered and wiring going everywhere. My only option is to rewire that butchered harness right?

All wired up and done, amp is now ready for a subwoofer :)
