Inksta's NA6

Postby Inksta » Mon May 16, 2011 11:42 pm

Bought my first MX-5 on Friday.

After years of driving and racing my Ford Festiva, it's a big difference!

Big thanks to supermazdakart for lots of advice (I came *this* close to buying the MX-5 he used to own, but it fell through at the last minute).

I looked at a dozen NA6s in SA before settling on this one, so let me know if you need to know anything about any that are currently listed on carsales, gumtree, drive, trading post etc.

Very happy with this car. Lots of dealership service history. As far as I can tell, the only things that aren't stock are the immobiliser/central locking and head unit.

These are the pics from the ad. I'll take some of my own soon.

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but everything looks very nice! Do you have any plans to modify?

Yeah, the ad's pictures were shoddy. But you're right, it's a clean car that has been well cared for.

I'm not going to do any mods until I've had some time to get used to the car in its stock form. I've bought some Bilsteins and springs second hand, so they'll go in in a few weeks as well as new tyres. Then later, bracing, better pads, a CAI and extractors.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that the exhaust is not stock... or at least, while it says Yumex on it, it doesn't sound stock. Much louder.

Woohoo! Lots of bits arrived today.

From mx5parts.co.uk:
Left and right wiper arms
Chrome sill plates
Floor mats
Replacement screws
Replacement for ashtray
Full bush kit

From forum members:
Front left indicator
Replacement hazard button ;)

Chucking some Bendix pads in next Monday and getting the wooobbbly discs machined.

Received Bilsteins in the mail but they'll need rebuilding (anyone recommend anywhere in SA for this?)

Good times!

Apologies no pics yet.... SOON!

Fitted all of the above (bar the bush kit) the other day.

Went out to take some photos but of course the sun went behind clouds moments before we got the camera out, so, only took two:

Eeeesh, don't ask! That was a disaster.

Was in negotiations about the supermazdakart, when an old friend calls me and says he will give me his Alfa for next to nothing. So I say yes of course, then I cancel the deal with the supermazdakart, and the next day my mate sends me a text to let me know he's changed his mind (read: wife has put foot down). I contacted the owner of supermazdakart again and she was pretty narky so I walked from the whole thing. Messy. :(

All for the best though. Very happy with the new car ('007').

Fitted factory spec Bilstein's today (mmmm) and also replaced the idle speed control valve (constant 1900rpm idle was driving me *insane*). $66 from mx5plus... money well spent!
:)

Stereo went in last week:

I'm out of money now, but the next thing on the to-do list is to take it in for a full wheel alignment and replacement of every single bush :)
