Im actually weighing up just making a fibreglass hood for this setup, it will be designed to be removed and have a fan put back on for daily use. But cutting a hood is easy, you just tape where you want to cut so it doesnt pull the paint, then cut with a jigsaw.

I just finished the front ducting. The car temp is way down, havent checked it with the laptop. So no Coolant temp data log, but the guageis at least 5mm lower than normal. Just to clarify this is with custom front undertray, ducts from bumper opening to radiator. And this is with a stock 20 year old radiator and an intercooler blocking most of it.

Cant wait to get this rear section in with the bonnet duct.

Hey dann I have a mx5 bonnet mould here with the scoop in it . It was custom made for wax4u s car . we made a couple of others but thats all. Not sure if it is where you want the vent but when we made it it was positioned to get as much depth and air out as we could. dont have any pics as we lost everything on our computer. But the car was on the cover of fast fours a few years back. can take pics tomoz for you / also have a carbon section of the vent area that could be fixed to a standard bonnet? will get pics also.
Am planning on doing something like the yellow car pic for mine but our motors in the rear so have heaps of space to work with.

Well If my engine was a foot further back Id do what the yellow car has. If you look at the pics mine is exactly the same but with a much steeper angle.

Problem I'd expect is your going to get drag with the downforce so it'd be interesting if you did some coast-down test from 100kph+ with and without in both directions. I don't think the flow is going to want to attach to the bonnet at all after it leaves the ramp with an angle that big creating a bigger front area. May work out being better to run a compromise and reduce the ramp depth/angle. You'd still reduce airflow under the car and get downforce without increasing the size of your wake.

As always mark, putting your mind to your post. Ill do that. The way i feel is that the turbulence created in the engine bay normally couldnt be better than the worst this might do.
Ill do the run downs too. Also ive seen woll tuft tests with just vented bonnets where the wool was attached to the cam cover and blew out the bonnet at a roughly 45 degree angle, the vent was in front of the engine so the air was going forwards then out! That not only shows how much suction and lift is being produced but also how terrible engine bay airflow is handled in a standard car. But the factory was never trying to keep 250 horsepower cool at the circuit was it.

Prod. Sports rules don't allow holes in the bonnet so none of the racers have tried this.

Update, Heres how I ducted the front of the radiator.


This first pic is how Ive sealed the front up so that and air entering the mouth cannot leave out the bonnet latch area.
As you can see it bolts to where the bumper bolts to on the bottom where those 2 bolts are, and uses 2 more factory bolts up the top on the radiator support panel. also the stainless plate on top of that seals the rest up. Its all silicon'd in. Its hard to see but it has some side plates as well to stop air exiting the ends.

This the just the mouth Ive created, the side plates are aluminium and the lower plate is coreflute (for sale sign sh*t)

This is a side view of the lower side plates. It is almost the exact shape of the bumper so when the bumper is on it lines up with it and seal the front off.

For those confused at the last 2 pics, both photos were taken from the wheel well, Ie take the wheel off and aim forwards towards the radiator.
Note- Both the side plates in the last 2 photos are of the same design, due to the car being a little different on both sides you can see Ive bashed the ends around to snug up with the radiator.
