Window tinting
Nice work dave, i have been watching this thread with great interest. when i go to work, my car is usually parked outside and get's quite hot, especially when you have a voodoo gearknob (im sure many of us have had burnt palms on countless occasions
).
It's quite a reasonable price as you mentioned Dave, to save yourself from getting burnt etc... it's a small price to pay.
Might have a little shop around this week.

Window tinting
Auto Barn (and Super Cheap) sell rolls of window tint film. I have some from Auto Barn that I used to tint some windows at home. I have been meaning to check if they are legal for the 5. Using Dave's links above (thanks Dave) I will check it out and may end up doing the windows on the 5.

Re: Window tinting
tinting windows is not an easy job and getting it done is not exactly cost prohibitive for most.

Re: Window tinting
Seriously though
$170 in sydney, done at your place, for 3 windows and a strip on the windscreen..... why would you bother doing it yourself.
You get your choice of tint, and a warranty....
Call Hypertint, they have done 3 of my cars, and 15 in my office alone.
Plus they even tinted my dads boat.....

Re: Window tinting
You're lucky! I decided not to get mine done anymore. I rang all the shops in geelong and I got quoted $300-500 just for 3 windows... Pricey eh? The absolute cheapest was $250 but the shop stood me up 3 or 4 times. When I say stood up, I mean just that. I made an appointment and they never showed up. Called them back and made a new appointment just to have it happen again and again.. Anyone know where I can get it fone local for a good price? Everywhere wants to charge me same price as a 4 door saloon for some reason

Re: Window tinting
seems crazy nano- Geelong is not exactly a small country town- try your local car yard or detailer for a contact on getting it done. At those prices it is not good value. I have an NB and no aftermarket tint- the car often has the top down and I am not tempted to to go the tint path. I also have a family 4 door and I did not bother with a tint on that either and I see little virtue in it. Most modern cars ( I know yours is bit older) already have some tint. I spend more time outside than in the car.

Re: Window tinting
Did it myself to save money, Only cost about $30. The side windows are as easy as it gets. The hardtop rear window is a different story but no harder than changing the oilfilter.

Re: Window tinting
If you want a good window tinting job done on your MX give Rob Tait @ Cartint in Ringwood a ring on 03 98706667. He will not stand you up and do a good job. The job will only take a couple of hours to do. He has tinted all my cars and is regarded in the motor trade as the best around. He has been doing it for over 25 years.

Re: Window tinting
Does anyone know why the quotes I'm getting down here seem two-three or even four times the quotes others are getting in different cities? A couple of places even told me $650 for 3 windows. Pretty much everywhere claims it's an entire day job so I'm baffled by this.
So if you can buy all the stuff on your own for about $35 and knock out the job in your own garage in 40mins... What are we paying hundreds for? Yes there are labour costs but at $600 it seems like $250 an hour virtually on labour alone. Then factor in the tint shops would get the tints in on a massive roll so the cost of the sections used would be cheaper than buying individual sheets.
I'm not saying don't get work done at shops here or anything. But I'm just a little stunned at the crazy markup. I don't know, maybe it's Geelong? I'll give that place in Melbourne a call though... Well, when I have money again haha.

Re: Window tinting
Can't say for sure but somewhere around $200 or so. Best to give him a ring. It is not a big job. He could have it done while you wait. Should take a hour or so to fit. Have a look at his website www.cartint.net.au
