Batteries which one....

Hi all,

I did the worst thing. Put the car away with the cover over and ducked back to get something out and left interior light on and for a week and the battery is gone.......well I think.. I have tried charging it but keeps on going flat of charge overnight, so It's gone.

Looking at research on batteries and more confused. MX Mania sell the new Odyssey Gen 2 Extreme 680 and with a few searches some say good some say bad.

After feedback on which one. I'm 2.5 hrs from them so need something newy.

PS need to do something tomorrow as in readiness for run of Sunday.......

Given time & loc constraints, why not try the battery GP recommends:
Absorbed Power GT12-35HR non-venting AGM battery:

Vents for OEM tubes can be connected too. 8)
A genuine Panasonic battery from Mazda is also an option. I hated the Odysessy battery with a passion in my purple car as it just continously died (replaced 3 times and eventually got rid of it). Purely anecdotal evidence as others may have had better experiences. Hope this helps.

That battery looks like it has the wrong shaped terminals.

there is a lot of info but the bottom line is for sure use an AGM battery. The Miata US site ( article by Anthony Wilde) has an excellent article on the merits of AGM batts. The size of the battery is important and if your current battery is an AGM and fits properly that is a good guide. The AGM;s are not cheap but long term a good proposition. It would be a good idea as MX52 suggested to check Mazda and use this as a benchmark for price / brand etc and take it from there.

I've been very happy with the Fullriver SPV35. It's an AGM battery at a much more reasonable price than the Odyssey. Search ebay for it. There used to be suppliers in Sydney and Melbourne who had local pickup.

I've had some ignition issues and this thing has had an incredible amount of charge in reserve - enough to wind the car 50m up a shallow slope and then onto a car trailer on the starter alone. It seems to have about the same power as a conventional battery of twice the size.

I end up in getting a Super Charge unit to fill the gap till more research on them. It fits great and looked at also the optima but measured it and wouldn't fit under the normal fitment bracket. The old battery was gone and running on 10 volts.

Hi all

Anyone in Bris after one of the Absorbed Power Batteries will find this mob at Moss St, Slacks Creek stock them. http://www.batterytraders.com.au/pd69/absorbed-power/ Yesterday I bought the GT12-35C, incl stainless bolt/spring washers nuts ready to go for $189. Although the posts are on the "far side" of the battery when positioned in my NA6 with the same orientation the original leads reached.

They are not a round post but I easily used the original clamps and holes with insulation cover, plus original bracket to hold in place - easy job. They are a fraction smaller than OEM.

I'm a firm believer in this battery style having used and absolutley flogged larger Optima AGM batteries in my Xtreme Winch Challenge 4WD since 2002 and still use them as std batteries now!

I replaced a 6 mth old Supercharge MF34 that I stupidly put in the car late last year - stupidly because doing motorkhanas and wet cell batteries equals "acid rain" in the boot. The up side was my boot was already stripped empty so a bicarb wash, etc in the one corner and thats all sorted too.

If any one wants a cheap Supercharge battery Im in the Brisbane/Gold Coast area. I'll put up a sep post actually.

Yesterday I bought the GT12-35C, incl stainless bolt/spring washers nuts ready to go for $189.

GT12-35hr is the correct one, The GT12-35C is more of a deep cycle battery which I imagine will work fine.
Just bought a HR for my golf cart from Supercharge and it was $120
