Hey all

So my house got broken into whilst I was asleep. They took my keys and wallet and then stole my daily falcon. These charming gentlemen then proceeded to do 4 B&E's and an armed robbery in my car and finished there escapade by driving the falcon through a fence and into a tree.

Anyways, I consider myself pretty luck to have not woken up cause it would have eneded very badly.

So, the keys to mazda are gone (no spares)

Mazda have quoted me $987 plus 8 weeks ex japan just for supply of two barrels and two keys

Anyone got any better Ideas?

I have pm'd geowiz as he is wrecking an SE at the moment. How hard is it to change out the barrels?

Glad your ok Monty, to get a pair of keys and the ignition barrel from a wreck isn't going to be that tricky, I also know of another NB wreck in W.A. the problem is recoding the keys to suit your car.

I think there's a procedure if you still have one of the keys in your possession, not sure if I still have the paperwork on how to recode.

That way you could code the 2 new keys to suit your ECU then swap the barrels and door locks over. Problem is if your old key is able to turn the barrel in the new lock then they'd still be able to take your car.

Cheapest and best solution might to have an after market alarm put in with a key code panel.

to change your door ones takes long but very do-able. Boot one dead easy, Ignition one... not so FUN...
Interior part is gonna be a head ache.. they are plastic probably good idea to goto a locksmith and just get a seperate one for that.

I'm amazed you dont atleast have house insurance, let alone car insurance, House insurance will cover your car keys, and even your car kick the panel in say loook what they did! lol

House insurance has to fix anYTHING on your property whether its your LEG or a Pack of damaged condoms lol

Monty,

I still have the barrel atatched to the steering column, and think I have the glovebox lock as well. Not that hard to change over at all. I still have the wrecked se in bits, so I can show how to change most bits if you need them. Give me a call if you want to organsie a time to have a look. I'll PM you my details.

Unbelievable. :shock:

Basically if it was an insurance claim all six barrels would need to be replaced.

1. Ignition
2. LH door
3. RH door
4. Boot
5. Console
6. Glovebox

I guess the way yr feeling, just an ignition key would be enough. An A1 locksmith will come out and make keys from your barrel
Mazda doesn't help with their bloody embedded chip programming. I dont know how to get around that :cry:

I really didn't think my key was "coded". It was just a straight simple key. Why are peiople saying it was "coded"?

The NB's have a chip inside the key that needs to be coded. Since your NB is such a rare beast i'm not sure if any of this has been bipassed.

Easy way to find out is to get a generic key cut from your Mazda key and give it a go, it should "unlock" the car and turn the ignition but the car shouldn't start.

I have one of these keys sitting at home in case my Mazda key gets locked in the car.

Sorry buddy, I think the key word is "transponder"

If there is interest could we do a WA group buy for keys, get them cut and Mazda maybe then come to the party and group code them for us?
I would take at least two depending on the coding price. I am sure others from the club would like some as well.

I think the word is "meh",

Most people just get a second key cut/keyed as soon as they loose one.
